What will the Gore and undecided supporters do?
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 09:04 PM by calteacherguy
Democratic Presidential Nomination
RCP Average

Clinton 36.5%

Obama 24.3%

Edwards 11.5%

Gore 13.3%

Undecided/Other 14.4%

Gore+Undecided/Other 27.7%

It would seem to me the big question in the race is how supporters of Gore (he's not going to run) and undecided voters will break. If most of them break for Obama, then the race could get really interesting. Edward's chances seem remote at best, since he's been campaigning the longest and is still not moving. Even if he got most of the Gore and undecided support, it wouldn't be enough for him to overcome Clinton.

Anyone want to add anything to my analysis?

4. Yes, he is
>(he's not going to run)

I disagree, but since those supporters are individuals, if Gore doesn't run (though I'm fairly
confident he will announce), they will splinter up among the various candidates. Obviously,
Al's endorsement would be critical. I doubt it would be Hillary.

14. I feel the same way...
I donated to Edwards @ the end of last quarter...just to be sure that he hangs in there until Al makes it "official"

6. It is too early to even speculate
It is rather insulting to Edwards campaign to rule them out so early. They are pretty strong in Iowa, and all it took for Kerry was Iowa....

It is also presumptuous to assume Gore is not running. He is either the world's biggest tease, or he is at least thinking about running.

I should also add that Clark has not decided on running either, and if he does that would definately change the dynamics.

Relax.

It is early.

Now is the time to sit back, have a beer, pop some popcorn, and enjoy everyone pontificating about the campaign. Great comedy.

8. I may not make up my mind until I walk into the voting booth.
I could see any one of our candidates (well, the top 5, anyway) being POTUS. Of course, others may also get it yet. Election day can't come soon enough, but I'm in no hurry to choose a candidate to back today.

Given the current slate, on both sides.

At least, that's what I've heard pretty much everywhere.

11. I'm gonna wait a while
I must admit , that I like Edwards (IMO the most liberal of the top tier) I like Richardson too, but sometimes he sounds like an idiot. I will vote for HRC of she gets the nod, she won't get my primary vote at this time. The drug war comments have almost delivered my vote to Gravel, so far. So, as you can see I am undecided except for Gore.

13. I think he'll play it safe.
Remember gore endorsed Dean in 2004....so who knows...

I think it might play it safe this time around and wait to endorse until a clear nominee is emerges.. When he endorsed Dean last time Dean was looking hopeful... I dont think hed want to pick a non-winner again...

I know there's bad blood betwen he and the Clinton's but if Hillary gets the nomination my bet is gore will be on the campaign trail...

Plus he's going to want whomever the ultimate candiate is to work wtih him on global warming when they become president so he wont want to piss anyone off..

He'll be too busy getting the Noble peace prize this fall to have time to do endorsement stumps speeches!!!! I say he goes public in Late January early February... probably after super tuesday...

15. According to the poll, they'll go to Clinton, Obama, and Edwards
in that order. So it won't make much of a difference. Even if he does endorse someone, which I don't expect, it won't be enough to change the current standings.

16. I am looking for good judgment and proven competence.
Someone who can juggle more than one ball in the air without dropping it. There is absolutely no room for any more blunders.

So you see, I am a Clark supporter. LOL. I also would have a great deal of confidence in Al Gore.

Guess that makes me still undecided.

19. No Gore, no Clark, no primary vote
If Obama wins the primary, I would vote for him in the general, but that is the only one of the main candidates I would consider voting for.

20. Visions of sitting in the
pumkin patch come to mind...:hide:

Linus: Hey, aren't you going to stay to greet the Great Gore? It won't be long now. If the Great Gore comes, I'll still put in a good word for you.

Linus: Good grief! I said "if"! I meant "when" he comes!

Linus: I'm doomed. One little slip like that could cause the Great Gore to pass you by....

In the interest of transperancy...IF he does jump in, I will be forced to reconsider my current choice...but I will not be sitting with Linus in the pumkin patch...

25. Many DUers have a short memory - Clinton didn't run until Oct. 1991.
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 11:28 PM by Alexander
If November 1, 2007 rolls around and Gore still hasn't announced (or worse, has made a Shermanesque statement), then I will begin to consider who I will vote for in the primary.

Nobody will be casting a single vote until next year. So I have time to decide in the event that Gore doesn't run.
