CBS Poll: 63% Say Clinton "Likely" To Win
Obama still distant second. No significant bump from campaign contributors.

The poll shows Clinton continuing to hold a solid lead over the rest of the Democratic field. Among likely Democratic primary voters, she has a 43-24 percent edge over her closest rival, Sen. Barack Obama. Former Sen. John Edwards is third at 16 percent.
...
On specific issues, a majority of voters thinks Clinton would make good decisions on health care (74 percent) and foreign policy (68 percent), while 58 percent think she'd be effective as commander in chief. But many (52 percent) are "uneasy" about her ability to handle an international crisis.
...
The poll suggests that Sen. Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, will not have a major impact on the election. Half of voters think her marriage to him will not influence her support one way or the other; while voters who think the marriage will have an impact are evenly split between those who think it will help her and those who think it will hurt her.

3. Who is Breck Girl
The only other candidate mentioned in the original post is John Edwards, and you can't be referring to him as "Breck Girl" because only Fox "News" watching, Coulter-Loving, Right-Wing DittoHeads would refer to Senator Edwards in such a sexist and derogatory way.

8. I think you are correct...
I like Obama.... A LOT , read both his books... but I dont think it's his time.

I think Hillary has the nomination and the presidency already and there is not much to be done to stop that... I think all the stories saying otherwise are just to fill 24/7 cable hour time.

Obama has a bright future in this country.. I think he may very well be president one day... just not in January 2009.

12. What part of this is funny?
He's an honest, decent man who still has something to learn about presidential politics. If he isn't disgusted by the whole thing, he'll learn.

And it is beyond silly to anoint Hillary before a single Democrat has cast a ballot.

39. I agree because a lot can happen between now and the primaries.
But one thing about Hillary I have noticed and perhaps you have too: she doesn't seem to miss a beat or make a boo boo. I'm sure she would have answered the sex ed for kindergartners question very differently than poor Obama did. I don't think I saw her with the Planned Parenthood large logo in the background, but plenty of the coverage on Obama's remark shows the logo behind him. Not Hillary. Plus, I think her dust up with the Pentagon made her look good and the a*hole who sent her that letter look obnoxious. It doesn't hurt her when the other side is that stupid.

15. Only 35% of people think BO has the experience to be president
And among independents the number is 38%. Even among Democrats it is a low 47%. So much for the "Obama is more electable than HRC" meme. People are not going to elect someone who they view as not up to the job after the debacle of the past 6 years...

Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 10:20 PM by zulchzulu
Obama is kicking ass with contributions over a wide base of supporters and continues to get more popular.

It's hard for you to understand that, but we aren't going to give up the White House to the Repugs by nominating the Clintons. They want it SO BAD to reunite their party by running against two Clintons... and they are not going to get it.

Watch and learn.

20. The reality is money does not buy votes
The reality is Obama's poll numbers have fallen (remember, he once reached 30-33% in the polls and actually led in a few national polls) as HRC has increased her lead ever since the series of debates began. I am an Edwards supporter but the reality is HRC has run the best campaign thus far and that is why she has increased her already large lead.

Her supporters are so damn arrogant and full of themselves.

Right now, it looks like she's going to win. But there have been upsets in many elections of the past so don't act surprised if she doesn't have this thing as locked up as you would think and would like.

9. You Hillary fans love the polls.
This is the only thing you have to hang onto but I guess if it keeps your sanity in check and prevent panic. Good for you, but as you well know, polls are specifically based on geo graphics in order to get a certain result. We all know that Hillary is the media darling and they push her, so for your benefit, it works well but we all know that Obama is getting his message out and his support is growing as we converse. He's running a positive and efficient campaign and just remember, poll statistics don't elect Presidents, the american people do but don't panic, according to you, the polls are sacred, fair and no bias. Just like James Carville said, a Hillary supporter, "Money wins campaigns" and the combination of an extraordinary fund raising ability to get your message out along with a campaign that believes in the american people, not corporate or special interests, not sound bites and voter pandering will prevail but by all means, believe in the polls if that's your comfort zone.

Resistance Is Futile...

It's just plain idiotic to get caught up in polling this early in the race--all it can possibly do is to plant the idea in your head so you'll become apathetic. I have therefore taken to completely ignoring polling stories, but I made an exception in this case because what the heck does "likely to win" actually mean--that she doesn't DESERVE to win, or that she'll cheat?

31. What percent thought Lieberman likely to win in July 2003?
And how far off did that turn our to be? I hate our fixation with polls, especially this early. The media makes damn sure that the public is more likely to know a politician's polling numbers than his or her actual policy positions. At this early stage in any election campaign, name recognition and media image drive so called candidate "support" far more than actual knowledge of who a politician is and what they can or will accomplish. Few politicians have a strong national reputation, but those who do start out with an advantage in regards to early polls, as did Lieberman in 2003.

If constant monitoring of poll numbers was only a harmless distraction I wouldn't care, but it isn't. More and more it determines which candidates get taken seriously and therefor receive free media attention. More and more it determines which candidates are able to raise money and therefor compete with any chance of winning. All of this favors candidates with well greased connections to major establishment players able to deliver press and early large contributions. It warps the playing field in favor of insiders. It is a virus and virtually all of us activists have caught it and keep spreading it further, against the very values that we claim to uphold.

None of this is to say anything positive or negative about Hillary Clinton, who is an accomplished politician offering her vision for America's future to American voters. I don't blame her for the fixation on early polling. I blame us far more.

to win the democratic nomination (even before a vote has been cast) so just ignore everyone else, Rupert Murdoch (Fox) loving her, throwing fundraisers for her...other big time republicans donating bucks to her campaign...

To hear the republicans & the DLC tell it, don't pay attention to any other Democratic candidate, (least of all John Edwards) and accept the fact the republicans have who they want to run against...So go home Dems...it's all over, it's been decided for us...Hillary Clinton is our candidate and you can't do shit about it.
