So even if he's lost what's wrong with Dean collecting delegates? |
|
Why pressure Dean to drop it? Okay, Kerry wins. Why shouldn't Dean collect delegates for the convention, so that they can advocate for the political positions he represents? This is what Kucinich and Sharpton will probably do, and there is no big pressure on them to drop out.
Why shouldn't the millions who do prefer Dean get their chance to show it and be represented at the convention, even if he cannot win?
This is not contradictory to uniting behind the nominee.
The unite-now, drop-out talk is profoundly undemocratic - insincere - insecure. It distracts from discussion of real issues.
Discuss.

2. Nothing is wrong with it but the |

point is Dean was a front-running candidate and was expected to win the nomination at one point. Kucinich and Sharpton never were considered this way. I think Dean wanted to win the nomination, not stay in to make a statement. But time will tell.

I know I was never one of those who operated under any assumption that Dean would win the nomination.
In fact, if one took a stroll through DU 2's archives, one would most likely find that Dean is the candidate whose DU supporters made the fewest "my candidate WILL win!" posts.
The only people who *expected* Dean to get the nomination were those who wanted to ride his coattails.

3. There's a plan with no negatives ... |

If Kerry does get the support, it should be with the caveats his track record deserves.
It keeps Kerry and his media supporters on notice, if nothing else.

Who could've predicted Kerry's success in the early primaries, and who can say whether or not Rove has enough dirt saved up on Kerry to put his campaign out of commission. Rove would probably wish to save it for after the convention, but the democrats may want it brought out beforehand. If so, Dean and Edwards would still have a chance. If not, Dean is still a strong voice for democracy, and will have a favorable influence by staying in.

Sad that a democracy allowing room for all views is such a challenge to so many.
