Calling all poll junkies! Can we come to an agreement on Rasmussen's daily tracking poll?
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 11:26 AM by rinsd
As many of you already know Rasmussen has decided to torture us by doing 5 day a week daily tracking polls for the respective nominations.

Yesterday, the poll was posted because Obama saw a jump(cut the lead to 9). Well today Hillary showed a jump (back up to 11 pt lead).

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2008/presidential_tracking_poll

Now as poll posters and poll commenters I was hoping we could come to an agreement to post Rasmussen's average at the end of the week vs posting his daily tracking poll everyday. The daily tracking poll will be more volatile than the average. By posting the average the trends should be clearer and hopefully there will be fewer arguments (HA!...sorry I know how futile that sounds).

So what say you poll junkies? can we try this out as a means of keeping a semblance of peace on
GD-P?

1. Damn, I thought you were referring to Michael Rasmussen of team Rabobank
I'm spending WAY too much time watching the Tour de France!

2. I'll agree to that.
But then again if someone jumps in on a dily basis, I just can't keep quiet (it's not my style). :)

4. Polls six months out from the votes is fairly meaningless anyway
Yeah, Obama's up. Then Clinton's up. Then Obama's down. Then Clinton's down... Up! Down! It's Tuesday! Wow, did you see Wednesday? Down! Up! Edwards? Edwards! Richardson? Uh...uh...look! Up! Down!

No one is really paying attention to the miniscule vibrations of the race and so many polls have 15% or more undecided so far. It's not going to be until October than we can see real trends.

7. It is meaningful.
It's only meaningless if you are expecting it to tell you who will win the nomination, but that is not the purpose. Many of us like to see the state of the campaigns, the mood of the country, how and what events effect each campaign, and how the candidates and campaigns react under adversity and how voters perceive those reactions.

9. At this time in 2003, Lieberman was ahead of Gephardt and Dean in some polls
Surely, that is meaningful information now....if you're a political junkie with a lot of time on your hands.

To me, it's like watching and reciting every play made by a baseball team throughout the season. Some people are into it, but most just start getting interested when the playoffs start and even more just get interested when the World Series begins.

It's practically the same thing in my view.

10. So you would prefer drag racing to the 24 hours of LeMans?
The Velodrome to the Tour de France?
1 game tennis matches?
McDonalds vs. La Petite Auberge?
Action movies vs. character development?
Short stories vs. novels?

Rasmussen giving out poll results 5 days a week is something we hope you ALL reach agreement on.

6. i'm inclined to take rasmussen with a grain of salt.
"As a guest analyst, Rasmussen has appeared on Fox News Network, the BBC, CNN, NPR, CNBC, and on local broadcast outlets in nearly every media market in the nation. His firm has even been mentioned on The West Wing and The Daily Show.

Scott Rasmussen is an Evangelical Christian and is currently president of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, a not-for-profit corporation with historic ties to the Methodist Church and the Wesleyan tradition. The Camp Meeting founded the town of Ocean Grove, New Jersey in 1869 and maintains a Christian seaside resort community providing opportunities for spiritual birth, growth, and renewal. His slogan for the 2006 Annual Camp Meeting was 'In the Redemption Business.' The town is a national historic site."

(wikipedia)

especially since i believe that the rw is orchestrating our presidential loss in 2008 by dictating who our candidates will be . . . i know, tinfoil hat territory.

17. Scott Rasmussen might be a piece of shit
But take his polls with a grain of salt at your own peril.

He was spot-on accurate in 2004 and 2006.

on how many diebold machines would be hacked. i am still of the opinion that, in reality, the left won 2006 by a landslide not the near squeaker we all sweated. that said, i hope you are right that he is non-partisan.

22. Rasmussen always has Bush's approval 10 points higher than everyone else
I think that's good reason to take him with a grain of salt.

8. Why I haven't been posting these the last few days...
Daily Rasmussen updates would get pretty tiresome and one days results aren't as accurate as a running average...once a week seems about right to spot any trends...

21. I don't see a harm in posting them daily, I take Rasmussen with a grain of salt anyway
Considering they have the Fuhrer's approval ratings consistantly 10 points higher than they actually are.
