Republicans save the Day!
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 01:10 PM by FredStembottom
That's the headline I see, too clearly, in my head.

It would be the headline to the following scenario:

Mainline Republicans sound alarm on Bush Administration over-reaching (Paul Craig Roberts)

Republicans organize to intervene (impeachment and/or "the visit")

Bush and Cheney removed (tried and removed/resignations)

Republicans in unison: They weren't Republicans! They weren't Conservatives!

"Real" Repubs/Conservatives hailed as saviors of our nation!

Republican landslide victory in '08.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is where "Daschle-ism" has taken the Democrats. Ever worried about being "naughty" (trembling at the lever of the Filibuster for 6 years) and making sure that any Dem experiencing true emotions is given a time-out. The Dems simply get bypassed - for another generation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modern Republicans are evil - but they sure get things done.

1. Were you around in 1974?
The ONLY reason Nixon resigned was because the Republicans saw the writing on the wall and went to talk with him. There was NO Republican landslide in the next election--Carter was elected, and Democratic majorities in Congress got stronger. It was only because of the Iran hostage situation and the finagaling by Reagan's minions that Carter didn't get re-elected, I think.

3. I was. And you are right.
But.... a wholly corrupted Press makes what I just outlined quite possible.

Just possibilities. Hoping, still, that our weak-willie Dems get busy.

Ther just aren't any more chances left. The Dems either end the bush admin. or a totalitarian state emerges OR what I imagined emerges.

4. When you find yourself talking about how diabolically clever Republicans are, it's time to lie down.

6. It will take Republicans joining Democrats to throw the Little Dictator out.
But I doubt the American voter is going to negate 10 years of Republican corruption/mismanagement because they finally did the right thing. It was the majority Republicans who abdicated their Constitutional role to keep this criminal Executive in check that got us hear in the 1st place.
