Edwards challenges Bush* to visit the same povery stricken places JE visited with him
Knoxville crowd hails Edwards for assailing Bush over poverty

==Knoxville, Ia. - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards drew applause in Knoxville on Thursday for his sharp words blasting President Bush's record on poverty.

Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, stopped in Knoxville following a three-day anti-poverty tour.

"I want George Bush to come to these places that I just visited with me and look in the eyes of the people that I saw and tell them why he's turned his back on them," Edwards said. "Tell them why he thinks it's OK for people to live like this. It's not OK. It's wrong. This president has not only turned his back on these people, he's actually made their lives worse.

"While he's been helping rich people get richer, they've been getting poorer," he added, generating applause.==

1. I'm not an Edwards supporter, but I really love what he's doing here.
He's going after a constituency that has, for all the wrong reasons, voted Republican in recent elections.

And more, whether they vote for a Democrat or not in the next election, he's at least introducing them to the idea that they should have expectations from their elected officials beyond just the demagogic issues the Republicans have been throwing at them. It's time someone reminded America that we have a government by, for, and of the people, rather than outside, over, and against the people.
