It can't happen here. It can't happen here. It can't happen here. It can't happen here. It can't happen here. It can't happen here. It can't happen here.

Not a single shot fired, no riots in the streets, no "Tiananmen Square", no "Pen is mightier than the sword". It happened.

What's the point of even posting here if you think it's all over?
I just don't get that.

If one argues that regaining a true sense of freedom in this country is going to be an uphill battle, I'm the first one to agree. But simply throwing up your hands and saying "we've already lost the battle" makes the whole damn thing pretty futile.
People were astoundingly silent as the War On Drugs was escalated to the point that they were stripping away Constitutional protections left and right. That, in my opinion, was a test run for what we're seeing now. They wanted to see if people would complain. Far too few people DID. They've played with public opinion, manipulating it to suit their own ends, and everyone just went along for the ride. Not just on the WOD, but in so many different areas as well. Pass a law? Sure. Why not? Change the way things work? Hell, okay.
We've been under the threat of tyranny for DECADES. And I've been fighting that threat since I became an adult under Ronny Rayguns. I don't see how recent developments significantly change that. We're on a very dark road and the slow, plodding shadow falling over us is as dangerous as any sudden shift to tyrannical rule could ever be.

|
or "isn't."
Two words. "Black helicopters."

the battle for the mind is completely lost, the happening has not found completion!
Free your mind! Do that before you attempt to free others in order to avert, or diminish, your level of hypocrisy.
The first step is to face your fears and then sort them out. This requires long pauses to reflect, not comforting and escapist mini-vacations in distractions like entertainment or creature comforts.
What are you afraid of and why? You might find that some fears are realistic and practical, (fire burns, falls can be fatal, etc.) others are merely structures of thought that manage risk and preserve comfort. How much comfort is absolutely necessary in relation to the kind that weaves you into a cocoon of compliance, apathy, and cooperation with the agendas of your keepers?
From that step, one can more easily weigh the price one pays, (and will eventually pay) for compliance and docile, consumer behavior. That, at least, is a true, personal choice, i.e., to wake up or to go back to sleep.

10. Actually, I don't think anyone ever seriously said "It can't happen here." |

On the contrary, haven't we always thought it would happen sooner or later? America has been waiting throughout its history for the Right to make its move. That's what Lewis's novel was about.
