Feingold to Introduce Censure Against Bush, Cheney, and Gonzales
Just now on Meet the Press, Sen. Russ Feingold has said he plans on introduce measures to censure President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Attorney General Gonzales for their...

...misconduct relating to the war in Iraq and for their repeated assaults on the rule of law.

Feingold said...

I'm shocked by the president...I think we need to do something serious in terms of accountability, and that's why I will be shortly introducing censure resolutions of the President and the administration.

Feingold cited a quote that was previously on the show by National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell and says...

This administration has assaulted the constitution. We need to have on the historical record some kind of indication that what has happened here has been....disastrous.

Feingold added that he believes the President might have committed impeachable offenses and cited a poll that showed nearly 50% of Americans believe impeachmentproceedings should be brought forth. Feingold said a censure is a way to hold the administration accountable without bogging the Senate down in impeachment hearings.

1. Will Most 'Dems' Run Like Scared Puppies This Time Around?
Last time Feingold proposed censure it was an ugly spectacle - 'Dems' scattering like cockroaches that just had a flashlight shined on them.

2. This is a good start
This no little slap on the wrist
impeachment has to start in the House .... and then a trial in the Senate.

The censure can be done as the house holds hearings that could lead to a bill of impeachment.

Lying to get us into a war count one

Violation of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution with
the Domestic Spying .... need a warrant & probable cause count two

The outing of Val Pal aka Treason count three

The use of federal monies to "buy news & reporters count four

The use of the Dept of Justice to manipulate elections
and to punish political enemies count five

Cheney's energy task force and manipulation of supply and price
of electricity to cause the removal of a sitting Governor of California count six

No doubt the repugs will move to block this but it "sets the table."

3. I heard this program. I am shocked how a senator can sit on
tv and say the president has committed impeachable offinses and assaulted the Constitution and we're going to slap his hand with censure. Does Feingold realize the audacity of this administration?

6. Feingold does, but many Senators do not
Impeachment has to start in the House. Russ understands the administration has done things that could be impeachable offenses and a censure is one way of holding them accountable.

9. I agree with you but why didn't Feingold say that? I'd bet my bottom
dollar that many, if not most, people do not know which house of Congress impeachs. And, for good measure, he could have said he would hope the House would do its constitutional duty. I like Feingold however, that comment sounded like politics as usual. imho

5. I was infuriated by Russert's this is SO RADICAL
Edited on Sun Jul-22-07 10:45 AM by MissWaverly
I wish Russert would ask the following question: If you could contrast the leadership shown
in impeaching a president who they thought was abouve the law (Clinton) with this current Congress,
what would you say?

No, instead, the ooooga boooga, smoooga alert (NIE terrorst alert) has been issued and the pundits
are circling the wagons around our fearless leaders.

If he is worth censuring, SURELY he must have committed impeachable offenses?

This is a grandstanding political stunt that will backfire against Feingold and the Dems...

Senator Feingold STILL hasn't figured out that you don't bring a knife to a gunfight...
