Missing in the impeachment debate |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-22-07 12:50 PM by gulliver
If we don't impeach, we should at least use the topic to hammer the GOP for impeaching Clinton, hammer Bush for lying, evading, and stonewalling, etc. If we aren't going to impeach (at least yet) we should still use it as a rhetorical cudgel. We should be tossing it to the Republicans with hot mustard.
Example, "Frankly, the Republicans divided the country in a critical time to impeach Bill Clinton for what now can be seen are trivial reasons. We think that hurt the country and abused the Constitution. Two wrongs would not make a right. But we do ask that the Republicans who impeached Bill Clinton not to continue providing cover for the current president. The GOP Congress that felt it so necessary to impeach Bill Clinton on party lines should not shirk its duty to oversee and audit the current president merely because he is a Republican like they are. Why are Republicans not calling for free and open testimony from a George W. Bush White House so the country can see how we got where we are in the Iraq War? And if we find out that there was deliberate deception, Republicans have to do their duty as we do and pursue impeachment. It's our job."
...
I think saying things like "impeachment is off the table" or "we have bigger fish to fry" is extremely weak. One might even say "pathetic." The setup is 1) The outrageous, recent, and failed abuse of the impeachment process against a very popular president, 2) The worst president in history currently squatting in the Oval Office wiping his butt with the Constitution, 3) The media bringing up impeachment, 4) Ongoing investigations of impropriety are being stonewalled.
And you are telling me all we can do politically with this setup is hope for a walk?

2. We truly were being screwed by the umps in the MSM, but ... |

... not lately. When impeachment is brought up by our loud mouths and loose cannons (bless their hearts!!), the MSM brings up the issue. Then it is up to our people to knock it out of the park.
I sometimes wonder if our elected progressives have anyone watching the netroots. They (the leaders) should have had something better than "off the table" or "other fish to fry" ready as boilerplate. The issue was going to come up. They should have been ready with better material.
