Don't Just Lay There Dyin' ...
… Get Up and DO SOMETHING!
By Nancy Greggs

Jesus, you lazy Iraqis are on my last nerve. How many times do our politicians, Republicans and Democrats, have to tell you to stand up and take control of your own nation?

Haven’t we done enough for you ingrates? Didn’t we give you purple fingers?

Yeah, yeah, we know your country has been virtually destroyed. We know all about the bombed-out buildings, the deadly violence in the streets. We know that things like clean water, sanitation, and electricity are now luxuries beyond your grasp.

But hey, isn’t it time you stopped cry-babying about your dead family members and stepped up to the plate? Isn’t it time to quit yer bitchin’ and clean up the mess we made? Why don’t you just put a stop to the in-fighting, rebuild your schools and hospitals, construct new houses, create jobs and get your economy back on track?

What’s that you say? You’re just ordinary citizens caught up in a war you never invited nor instigated? Your “government” is made up of political hacks whose only interest seems to be power and money? You feel powerless in the face of the overwhelming death and destruction created by others that you have to actually live with every day, and no one seems to be listening to you?

Well, this is why we tried to bring you democracy – you know, like the one we have here.

When the American people speak up against war, the government is all ears and complies with the wishes of the majority immediately. End of discussion.

When our government gets out of control, our elected representatives always stand up for the interests of the citizenry first and foremost, political considerations be damned.

When our president starts breaking the law and ignoring our Constitution, we Americans – even though we are just ordinary citizens like yourselves – stand up change everything overnight. We throw his ass out of office, and that’s that.

Yeah, I know we’re not having our cities blown up every day, but let’s not nit-pick, shall we? Besides, when one of our cities, New Orleans, was destroyed a few years ago, we completely rebuilt it. To look at it now, you wouldn’t even suspect there had ever been a hurricane or a flood. THAT’S how it’s done, people – do we have to paint you a picture? Jeesh.

So listen to those US politicians who keep telling you to pull yourselves up by your bootstraps, and take control of your own country. Just because they can’t stand up to their own president is no reason why you can’t pull yourselves together and undo all of the damage that’s been done.

Jesus, we’ve invested billions in reducing your homeland to rubble, instigating chaos, encouraging terrorists to cross your borders – not to mention bringing things like torture back into use just like in the ol’ Saddam days. Isn’t it about time you guys took over from here?

It’s like the old saying goes, “We broke it, you bought it.”

What part of that don’t you get?

4. I know ...
... but I preferred to go with sarcasm to make my point, rather than BLAST the Democrats who have jumped on this blame-the-Iraqis bandwagon.

I won't tear down my party members here - that's the job of the 'other side'.

But it turns my stomach when I hear this garbage from ANYONE, including our own.

6. Excellent article. I lose respect for Democrats who choose to parrot this meme.
Unfortunately I've heard it from people I used to admire. Hearing it really does turn my stomach too.

5. Snarkdidleeicious!
When I hear a Republican spout the "time for the Iraqis to stand up" bullshit, I merely want to vomit. When I hear a Democrat do it, I want to strangle him or her.

Nance, you have hit the nail on the head once again!!

How many Iraqis must we kill before these people realize that we are only there to help?

Ingrates...

(Quote is from Monty Python's Holy Grail, btw.)

8. Or the classic Homer Simpson line ...
... when he left Bart out in the freezing rain after baseball practice.

"You know, son, we can argue until the cows come home about who was supposed to pick up who after the game ..."
