Lieberman sat in on Republican strategy sessions on how to derail Dems Iraq plan
Lieberman’s New Party Line

No one was surprised to see Joseph I. Lieberman , the Democrat-turned-independent from Connecticut, siding with the Republican leadership this month during the latest Senate debate over the Iraq War.

Lately, though, Lieberman has taken his alliance with GOP leaders up a notch. During the abortive debate on the defense authorization bill, he attended daily tactical sessions to help them plan their strategy for combatting anti-war amendments and their rhetorical points for use against the Democrats. And in a fitting symbolic twist, some of those meetings convened just down the hall from the office of Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who essentially owes his 51-seat majority to Lieberman’s continued caucusing with the Democrats.

Before the Democrats realized they could not break a GOP filibuster and set aside their anti-war crusade last week, the meetings were the main forum for developing the GOP counterpunching strategy. For example, the group — which typically included GOP leaders such as Minority Whip Trent Lott of Mississippi and prominent supporters of the war such as John McCain of Arizona — decided to highlight a Lieberman amendment that would have required the administration to report on Iranian support for attacks against coalition forces in Iraq.

How do you like supporting Lieberman now, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, etc.?

3. They had no choice but to support Joe.
Joe is aipac's lead man in the Senate, same as no dissenters to joe's Iran bill.

4. I noticed that when the Republican Senators have a press conference...
he is standing in the background with them now. He is a Republican. I can't stand him. He is a warmonger just like the rest of them touting the benefits of a war with Iran.

5. But, because Reid is such a gutless wonder,
He's still Chairing Democratic Committes and retains his seniority.

Reid needs to tell him to shove off.

9. This story is from 2001, but it speaks to Lieberman's 'mindset' even then:
Sounds like he was talking to Al From....

Democrats Criticize Their Own -- and Bush

Immediately after the election, the DLC issued a sharply critical analysis of Gore for running a campaign that abandoned centrist themes for populist rhetoric. Today a number of Democratic elected officials, including Lieberman, joined in that critique.

"I think we could have given a larger voice to these concerns in the last election," Bayh said. "Some of the class warfare rhetoric is something we might have done differently."

Asked about the DLC's criticism of his and Gore's campaign, Lieberman replied that the two had run "a very New Democrat campaign." But he said that phrases like "the people versus the powerful," which was the main Gore message through much of the general election, "were too subject to misunderstanding by the public."

12. No surprise that he has campaigned for people like Susan Collins (R-Fake).

The remaining fakes in the senate are his last hope of relevance. When anyone of Sununu, Collins, Coleman, Smith, or Warner goes down, Lieberman will be a forgotten backbencher, and probably won't survive the 2012 election.

13. Check this out...Lieberman supports CUFI
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 12:06 PM by catgirl
CUFI (Christians United for Israel) basically supports war in the Middle East. That's when
Christ will rule again from a throne on the Temple Mount.

Lieberman attended a recent meeting. This is what he had to say:

"America is a faith-based initiative," said the former Democrat. "We are not endowed
by the great thinkers of the Enlightenment but endowed by our Creator ... Anyone who
tries to separate American government from faith," he added, "is doing something profoundly
unnatural."
