Can we start a new DU forum for RFK Jr. supporters?
There are several forums already exisitng on DU for both declared and undeclared Democratic presidential candidates, and I would like to propose that we start a forum for RFK Jr.'s supporters.

Thought I'd throw the idea out and see if he has enough support here at DU to get something like this going. Is this a forum you'd like to have?

If you're interested in starting an RFK Jr. forum, please read the following carefully...

Here is the procedure and rules for getting an new group started on DU:

One of the best things about DU Groups is that members have the ability to suggest new groups to the Administrators of Democratic Underground. If you wish to suggest a group, please follow this procedure:

1. Start one discussion thread in the forum of your choice to tell people about your idea for a DU Group.

2. In that thread, you must get responses from *at least ten DU members who agree to be active participants in the suggested DU Group*. All ten members to respond *must have donor stars*.

3. In that thread, members must agree on a proposed mission statement for the DU Group.

4. When enough members have signed on to join the group and have agreed on a proposed mission statement, one member must officially suggest the DU Group to a DU Administrator (Skinner, EarlG, or Elad), by sending an email. Please be sure to include a link to the thread where members have discussed the proposed Group.

5. The Administrators will consider the request and make a decision. The Administrators will either 1) Accept the Group as it is proposed, 2) Deny the Group outright, or 3) Ask for changes to the Group or its mission statement which would be necessary for its approval.

6. Once the suggested Group has been accepted by the Administrators, the Administrators will create a new DU Group in the "DU Groups" Category forum, and pin the mission statement of that Group to the top of that Group's forum.

OK, so those are the rules. We would need at least 10 DU members who have donor stars to agree to participate.

I'm hoping that several of you will come to the table and help out.

Anybody else think this is a good idea?

1. I like when
the most important subjects being discussed remain in the DU:GD or DU:GD-P forums. I think that Robert's message is extremely important today. In my opinion, there are benefits to keeping at least some of the RFK-related threads in the forums with the greatest traffic.

2. I think it is a good idea, if for no other reason than for the sake of organization.
I'd join. Even if he doesn't run, his "message" is so important for this Party and this time!

Note to RFKin2008: Been trying to PM you for a couple of days, but I guess you have to have a larger post-count or something before you can receive PMs. I will be in touch.

Hey TC -

Yep, I'm still new here at DU and don't have enough posts yet to send or recieve PM's, but I do want to talk with you very much!

You can contact me directly via the email link on the Draft RFK Jr. for President 2008 website here: http://RFKin2008.com.

If we manage to get an RFK Jr. forum together here at DU, I have a feeling you would be one of the real movers and shakers in that forum!

Interesting comments and ideas in this thread already...maybe it is right that the RFK Jr. related stuff would get lost in a forum that doesn't get as much traffic as the main political forums? Don't know if that's the case or not - will leave that to the more veteran DU members to decide if a separate forum would be more or less effective.

I guess there is something "fan clubby" about having a separate forum, and I wonder if his supporters would find us, or if the RFK jr. forum might get lost in the shuffle?

3. I dunno. It would set an odd precedent.
Yes, we have groups for other undeclared candidates. But in the case of Clark and Gore, both have run previously and have a widespread, if distinctly grassroots and underground, draft movement. RFK Jr. has never run, doesn't appear as if he'll jump in, and doesn't have anything close to a grassroots movement urging him to hop in. Should we have some sort of standard for who gets a group? I guess the standard would simply be DU interest, so if the 10 recommendations come, then OK. And, yeah, that does make sense, but does it mean that if I can get 10 DUers to sign up, I can start a SteppingRazor Group? :)

4. He may not run for President
but if Hillary does get the nomination NY has a Senate seat to be filled. His message and his work make him someone exceptional also.

6. Hey, I've got a great message, and I've done some pretty good work...
now I want my DU Group, dammit :P

Kidding aside, the more I think about it, the more I suppose this really should simply be left to DUer interest. If the 10 recs come up, then RFK Jr. should definitely get his group.

10. Still need more support for this thing to work
OK, so we've got what, 4 or 5 "yes" votes so far. We need 10.

Keep those cards and letters coming if you'd like to see an RFK Jr. forum added to DU. Thanks!:)
