I'm watching Kucinich in the spin room on the local WI station |
|
(actually he was on the way in) and he's really good. He's more natural in that context than he is on stage.
His voice has a much more natural inflection, and he comes off as really aware of the nuances of what's going on in the campaign.

I've met. Incredibly well informed, comfortable talking to anyone, an attentive listener, an educated response to any topic.

2. Best interview I heard with him: living on earth. |
|
Speaking in paragraphs, engaging complicated ideas, speaking very naturally, and good back and forth with the interviewer.

5. I don't suppose there's any chance it's recorded? (hope, hope) |
|
I'd not only love to hear it myself, but I want to give some of these speeches to others who really need to hear them
Thanks for reporting on this!

3. This is true about Dennis. The "debate" format is not really the way to |
|
understand what he's about. In fact, the debate format is his worst format, though he generally comes through with a few good shots, there, as well. He's far better one-on-one, and also when he's the main on-stage attraction & thus has a comfortable amount of speaking time.
It's a terrible loss to the entire process that many only see Dennis in the debates, where he's largely ignored, and NO ONE is given enough time to really explore subjects. Kucinich is not a sound-byte kind of guy. He's a complex & evolved thinker. A format oriented more towards substance & depth, and less towards sound-bytes, would be entirely to his advantage.

6. Dennis is great in those informal contacts |
|
and he is excellent in interviews. In debates, he's great if he gets a chance but he's so focused on what's being said that it's hard to see how engaging he can be just responding to questions in an interview. I'm guessing he looks and sounds better to the people in the live audience for debates than on television. I don't think we've had a real exposure to his stump speaking style, either.
In the last debate, when he was asked if he really thought he was electable, and he said "Of course I'm electable, if you vote for me," with that little smile and gesture that said "What a silly question, it's all up to the voters," that was a real glimpse of his personality and sense of humor, I thought. It's kind of like Edwards talking about all the things no one thought he could do, saying "And I beat 'em, and I beat 'em, and I beat 'em." Dennis also talks about how he's been the underdog in every race he's run. They could be a great team for the ticket!
