4. Because Jesus did away with ALL of the Jewish Law |
|
Well, actually it was the Council of Jerusalem at Paul's insistence (see chapter 15 of Acts) but let's not quibble :hi:
The problem is that many Christians are hypocrites. Eating pork or catfish, wearing clothes made from mixed fibers, sleeping with your wife while she is menstruating, etc. is perfectly fine because they want it to be fine. Homosexuality is a horrible sin because they want a group of people to condemn. Ignore the plain fact that the Hebrew word T`V is used to condemn all of these things and are thus equally "abominations."

5. Actually, I don't think "cotton blends" were ever |

involved!
I get your point, but most picky religious "don'ts" have always been as specific as possible.
I asked an observant Jewish man I know whether this law was still observed. He said yes, but it only applies to woolen/linen blends.
Hearing this, I suspect that this law originated as a protection-of-trade measure. The ancient Israelites had a large wool and sheepherding industry, and Egypt, the neighboring powerhouse, was noted for linen production. They didn't want Egyptian linen diluting the homegrown wool supply! All speculation on my part, but it's akin to the theory that the food restrictions were an attempt to avoid foods which don't preserve well in hot climates, or can transmit parasites.
