Poll question: Anti-Edwards poll (reasons for opposition) |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 05:32 AM by wyldwolf
(Full disclosure: I support Hillary but I happen to like Edwards, mainly because I understand politics and, thus, don't expect ideological purity in my candidates.)
After seeing the anti-Hillary poll, it occurred to me that many, if not all, of the options actually apply to Edwards as well. Some even more so. Edwards not only voted for the Iraq war, he sponsored the IWR!
Are we to believe Edwards went from a DLC/New Democrat to a "progressive" in just 2 years? Is this the real Edwards we're seeing now or was it then? That's the very definition of "political opportunist."
Current polling says he has lost his edge over Clinton and Obama in the general election. In other words, he's no longer the most "electable."

1. I support Obama but I love John Edwards |
|

and I'm going to help him too. I think he would be a wonderful president. So I'm not voting in your poll, because there is no reason for me not to support John Edwards.
My negative feelings about Hillary have softened some as well. I went from no way in hell, I'll stay home (precinct pres here) to thinking I'll volunteer even if she does get the nom.

2. I am deciding between Edwards and Richardson |
|
My main reason for not supporting Edwards is that I am unsure of which Edwards we would get. I do think that is a valid point. My big problem with Hillary, and why I won't support her in the primary no matter what, is what Bill Clinton did in 2004. After all the water gays carried for that man for him to say that Dean lost his right to run for President because he gave gays civil unions in Vermont and then to tell Kerry to support a Constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage was unforgivable and to my knowledge she hasn't disavowed it at all.

4. I don't think he can win... |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 09:28 AM by SaveElmer
So far he has let publicity over a haircut and the cost of his house almost derail his entire campaign...
Imagine what the Republicans will do to him if he were the nominee...
I generally like Edwards and would certainly work my ass off if he were the nominee...but I just don't see the go for the throat instinct that it takes to beat the right wing sleaze machine
I also happen to think Hillary would make a superior President...

5. there's a new element now, too, with the crack about Hillary's jacket |
|
Is Edwards now the candidate of fashion sense?

7. I wish Hillary would get Nancy Pelosi's husband to choose her clothing |
|
Apparantly, Nancy's husband picks out all her clothes, and say what you will about her, she always looks great! I think Hillary would do well to dress a bit differently. Not that it matters of course...there are much bigger problems out there. I'm just sayin'

I'm not sure that's fair. I watched the debate, and it really just seemed to me that John didn't want to say anything bad about Hillary, so he just came up with something relatively inoffensive on the fly. I don't think he really had anything against the jacket, or even cared about it. I can't believe I'm talking about this.

6. The dangers of right wing extremist/corporate governance have been |
|
made fully apparent by the policies and actions of the Bu*h administration.
It is very possible that John Edwards has learned something from his mistakes, and has, because he is a reasonable person, adopted a more progressive position.

11. I'm on the sidelines--haven't picked a candidate, but |
|
I think punishing someone for becoming progressive is a very bad idea. Did he campaign for Senate as a moderate? If so, his voting record indicates that he acted in accordance with his campaign. If he campaigns as a progressive for President, I would expect the same result (if my first premise is true, which I don't know.)
I vote for the actor, not the person. He may be a scum-sucking shitlicker in private life--they all are, afaic--but if he does the right things it doesn't matter. At all.

I especially like how the only option given saying that you support Edwards also forces you to say that you would never support Clinton, and that you have your fingers in your ears. Well done Wyldwolf. That's very balanced and fair of you.

15. Edwards would be a fine nominee in the general. My wife supports him |
|
although I favor another candidate at this time (Obama). Elizabeth is great though and John okay in my book. But I saw him on Letterman a couple of weeks ago and (jokes and politically motivated slams aside) what IS up with that hair. It was SO carefully sculpted and gravity defying in the front as to border on the bizarre. (How's THAT for deep political analysis???) Whatever...
