Conyers Wimps Out/ Gonzo Flames Out
I'm posting this to remind people here that it wasn't just Cindy who stood up to Conyers. Look at all the big names who went in solidarity to plea for justice and rightness.

The following was emailed to me from www.democrats.com:

Conyers Wimps Out

On Monday, Rep. John Conyers brushed off the heroic impeachment efforts of Cindy Sheehan, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Ray McGovern, Medea Benjamin, David Swanson, 300 dedicated impeachment marchers, 1 million petition signers, resolutions from dozens of cities and towns, and activists who called his office every 30 seconds.

His reasons? First, he doesn't have the support of a majority of the House (218 votes) to impeach Bush or Cheney. Second, FOX News would attack him.

These are simply not acceptable reasons to allow George Bush and Dick Cheney to commit war crimes and shred the Constitution - and we're not going to accept them. Instead, we're going to fight harder than ever for impeachment.

Conyers doesn't have 218 votes today, but we can change that. Tell your Representatives to join the 14 sponsors of H.Res. 333, Articles of Impeachment for Vice President Cheney:
http://www.democrats.com/peoplesemailnetwork/88
Also call them at 202-224-3121 and demand co-sponsorship of H.Res. 333 now.

Conyers would be attacked by FOX News, but we can change that too. Let's boycott FOX News advertisers:
http://www.democrats.com/boycott-fox-news-advertisers

We must also give Conyers a backbone transplant. Let's flood Conyers and other House Judiciary Democrats with more emails than ever:

Gonzo Flames Out

Even as Conyers wimped out, fate smiled upon us in the smirking face of of Alberto Gonzales, who is just so bad that even Republican Senators can barely stop themselves from screaming at him.

Gonzales testified again today before the Senate Judiciary Committee to explain why he lied to them in his previous appearances. So what did Gonzales do? He lied and lied some more.

Everyone who cares about Justice is outraged. The Senate is finally considering perjury charges. But if the Senate filed charges, guess who'd have to prosecute? Alberto Gonzales' own utterly corrupt Justice Department!

Impeachment is the only cure and it's time for Congress to exercise it. Once they do, they will discover the American people support their efforts to hold Bush & Co. accountable. And an impeachment investigation into Abu Gonzo will lead directly to Cheney and Bush. He must know about some nasty skeletons - why else are they protecting him in the face of Republican outrage?

Tell your Representatives to Impeach Alberto Gonzales Now:

3. "...heroic impeachment efforts of Cindy Sheehan..." Heroic? In what way? (rhetorical question)
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 01:20 PM by Buzz Clik
God I'm sick of this shit. Sheehan's contribution is to make a lot of noise, get face time on the tube, and get arrested when possible.

Conyers is actually trying to make the system work.

This, on the other hand, could make a difference:

If Sheehan actually approached those opposed to impeachment rather than flinging shit on those who support it, she might actually become relevant.

20. I am a little disappointed it is taking over the Democrats.com site.
I respect and read a lot of people who blog there. But I was turned off there when David S. wrote a front page article called "Is Dean Drunk"...when he did not tell Cindy we could get out of Iraq right that minute. They ripped him apart.

I guess I am so turned off by a few of them that I am now convinced our Democrats are handling things the right way.

6. What exactly was it that Conyers did that made the babies cry "wimped out"?
H.Res. 333 is in Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property chaired by Rep. Berman, of which Conyers is a member.

How is it that the name calling is directed at Conyers?

7. I think last week he mentioned impeachment and got everyone
excited. Here at DU included. Then to reinforce the peoples desires to see impeachment the above mentioned group went to his office to drop off petitions and make a statement about the people's wished to push for impeachment. Now Conyers says he is not going to push for it anymore.

22. No Conyers has been saying investigate Impeachment when the Dems were the minority party
Now that the Dems have the power, he has been relatively silent and saying impeachment is off the table, though on July 8th he mentioned the growing American support for impeachment, but only in the hopes it might get Bush to cooperate in the Gonzales investigation, still saying impeachment is not on the table, but hinting maybe we can't fight the American people, then again on July 20th though that wasn't actually a huge public announcement. So why would Conyers push and talk about Impeachment when the Dems were not in power, and he was not Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Before the election in 2006, He said he would set up a select committee to investigate and recommend on an impeachment resolution, made up of equal Dems and Repubs chosen by the Speaker and Minority Leader, when the Dems took power. Yet this select committee still does not exist.

Also Conyer's introduced an impeachment resolution when Reagan invaded Grenada, but has yet to introduce anything yet against Bush, he has only talked about setting up a committee to investigating about whether to introduce an impeachment resolution. I would say Bush has way outdone Reagan's invasion of Grenada!

8. The completely basic concept that you need votes to impeach is over some people's heads
Take a Civics 101 class at your local community college. When the teacher asks if you have any questions, ask what a "vote" is. You'll be amazed.

10. The congress is suppose to do the bidding of the people. Over 60% support
impeachment. It is our duty to push congress to change their votes. That is the lesson we should gather from Civics 101. They are hired by us. They need to do what is right.

23. 60% percent is innaccurate, it's 45% Bush, 54% Cheney as of July 5th
Though it would be nice if we had more polls on this one.

Support for impeachment by Dems is 69% Bush and 76% Cheney

I think Cindy was wrong. I think David Swanson was wrong. I think they have pushed the limits.

I think I am pissed off at being put down for supporting good Democrats who work for us.

I am sick and tired of Cindy Cindy Cindy taking over this board.

Sick of it all. I am going to start hiding every thread that has Cindy in the subject line. Or that even mentions her.

I found myself actually afraid to post a very good article about Dean and the Purple America because I am so damn tired of good guys like him and Conyers being bashed.

Sick of it.

Now attack me for not being a good American. Go for it.
