I endorse Hillary Clinton for President. |
|
Why do I endorse Hillary Clinton? Several good reasons.
1. She can win. Hell, by the time 11/08 rolls around, Joe Lieberman could win on the Democratic ticket, but just barely. Still, it's a key qualification for being nominated, and we ought not to ignore that.
2. A President Hillary Clinton will cause Free Republic Nation no end of grief, most of it self-inflicted because the're dumbasses, but there you go. Whatever causes Freepers to not sleep well at night, I heartily support.
3. She is nothing if not competent. After eight years of Resident Dumbshit, it will be refreshing to have somebody on the Oval Office who knows what she's doing, won't nominate judges who hate democracy, and cultivates the respect of her fellow world leaders.
4. As long as Eliot Spitzer is the governor of New York, her replacement will be a Democrat. My guess is, Andrew Cuomo will get the job. That would rock.
5. I share Sen. Obama's admiration for Hillary's pink jacket.

I too officially endorse Hillary for president.
1. She has the experience to start in the White House day one with no on-the-job training needed.
2. She has earned respect all over the world as part of the immensely popular Clinton administration which was beloved the world over.
3. It would bring an immmediate jump in American prestige and respect around the world for the same reason.
4. She would be the first woman president in U.S. history
5. She would implement a new heath care policy that would eventually lead to universal health care.
6. The tax system would be overhauled with the rich paying their fair share and the Iraq war would be wound down.
Many other reasons but I could go on all day.

2. I am also leaning in her direction. |
|
The other choices are scary to me. If we get someone too radical and/or too inexperienced it will be the death of the Democratic Party. There is just so much riding on it. We need someone to save the country and she is the only one I can see so far that is capable. I worry about people following Obama because he is an "inspiration". We need more than good speeches from a Senator that has been in the Senate for two years. I think we should be very careful.

Everything about Hillary the other night was great. I can't even start.
I for one really respect your opinion on this, but I'm not sure I agree yet. The main thing is, personally I think your number point #2 is more valid than point #1. As a far left guy, the appeal of something like a Hillary/Obama ticket to me is not that its a conservative "safe" bet, but that its an "up yours" bet to everybody at Free Republic. Clinton's wife with a VP of color. Its an awesome middle finger to the Republicans.
#3 is a good point too. She is simply, obviously, not going to be an idiot. This is pretty important after Bush.
I would complain that I wished I trusted her and knew her intentions more, but in some ways its not the Hillary that we all love. The Hillary we all love is the one who, when asked about the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton dynasty, agrees compassionately, and with a strait face, saying yes, Bush never should have been elected. There's nothing humble or apologetic there, and I confess I delighted in it as much as everybody else in that crowd.

I have attended that she was featured she was seperated from the real folks.I was told she would not even autograph my book as that was only for $3000 contributors. She has always been that way.She seems the reverse of Bill who always went out of his way to mee the little folks.Sadly with this campaign, he seems a bit changed as well.Money and power for its own sake appears to be evrything to her.I wish I could be proven wrong, but so far, I haven't seen anything different. But I do believe she is intelligent and would be a vast improvement on Bush! I just can't get enthusiastic about her candidacy. She is not the woman I would choose to be our first President.I could support Elizabeth Edwards if she were running or Barbara Boxer or Maxine Waters .Even Nancy Pelosi. But whatever. She is what she is.

7. Just a note, Rod Blagojevich is the Democratic Governor of Illinois |
|
And he would appoint a Dem to replace Senator Obama as well. The Democrats have a deep bench in both states. The best chance of a GOP Senate pickup based on the results of the Presidential race would probably be Biden's seat in Delaware. Gov. Ruth Ann Miller would appoint a Dem to replace Biden if he became President, but GOP Congressman-at-Large Mike Castle might have a good shot against a Senator who hasn't yet stood for election.

What a shock, you are not going to ever vote for her. Just no vote at all then or do you plan on voting for the Republican candidate? Oh, never mind.
I don't think my endorsement matters much, but I endorse her as well. I am certain she will protect the things that matter to me, and that is what counts (for me).

14. Apart from #5, Gore outperforms Hillary on all those reasons. |
|
1. Gore is equally as well-known as Hillary and his negatives aren't as high.
2. Freepers hate Al Gore but some reasonable Republicans might actually vote for him.
3. Gore has demonstrated his competence in his 25 years of being an elected official - much longer than Hillary's 8 years.
4. There will be no replacement for Gore because he holds no elected office at this time.
5. I like Hillary's pink jacket, too. But I don't vote for people just because of their clothing.

your enthusiasm for Hillary but I can't grasp your reality index in terms of her winning the general election. I know too many folks here in the heartland who voted for Kerry that will either stay home or reluctantly vote Republican if she is the nominee and this is especially true if Rudy gets the GOP nod. I will work for her and do whatever I can if she is the nominee but there is no way, in my humble opinion, that Hillary Clinton will ever be elected president.

32. I'm leaning to her as well! I've been carefully watching all the |
|
candidates. How they handle confrontation, who they have speaking for them, and how they behave in the debates.
The one thing that impressed me most, at least recently, was the way Hillary responded to that idiot from the DOJ. She didn't allow any time between his stupid letter to her and her response, and she kept it professional but slapped him hard at the same time. THAT'S the kind of response I want in a candidate!
I also liked her response to the meeting with foreign dictators question. I believe it IS better to send your high level emissaries to meet with your enemies FIRST before you commit to an in person meeting...just to find out what their intentions really are.
I'm not slamming anyone for voting to give Shrub the authorization to use force. I remember when this was being discussed and voted on, and I also believed he needed the power behind the threats. I DIDN'T believe ANY AMERICAN President would recklessly take our Country to war without justifiable;e cause. The arrogance, abstinence, and stupidity of this man STILL amazes me!!!! In all of my 64 years, I've NEVER seen anyone like him!!!!!!

36. the major problem we face today is the immense influence of corporations . . . |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 04:54 AM by OneBlueSky
on government policy . . . corporate dollars buy politicians, who then vote the way their corporate sponsors wish . . . if you look at it objectively, mega-corps are a primary cause of virtually ALL of the major problems we face today -- the war, the healthcare crisis, arms proliferation, environmental devastation, the energy crisis, job outsourcing, the collapsed manufacturing base, rigged elections, the bursting housing bubble, etc. etc. etc. . .
Hillary Clinton is a fine woman, but she is also a died-in-the-wool corporatist . . . of the DLC ilk . . . should she be elected, there will be no fundamental change in how things are done in Washington . . . which means business as usual, which means instead of solving problems, we'll continue to wallow in an ever-descending quality of life for the nation and the planet . . .
this country -- and the planet -- desperately need a president who will stand up to the corporations and tell them NO MORE! . . . if you look at Hillary's list of donors, it's quite obvious that she is NOT that person . . .

40. Did you DUers who think Hillary is DLC ever watch Bill's ad for her? |
|
It had some wonderful specific info on the incredible things she has done in the past, including turning down big moneyed offers in favor of helping children and the poor. She is strong on education and certainly health care. She is brilliant like Bill. Hillary will be a savvy, well-advised and good president if she wins. I believe that it will be fun if she drives the neo-cons mad and the pugs crazy; they have certainly done that to us for 7 miserable years. All you Clinton-haters need to do your homework. Al is first in my book, Hillary is next (and I hope she chooses Wes to be her VP...or Obama...or Richardson) and after those two is whomever the democrats choose. Haven't y'all learned yet what it is like to have a GOPer government. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE no more talk of not voting for our democratic nominee.
