Obama Tries to Turn Clinton Words on Her

By NEDRA PICKLER
Associated Press Writer

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to turn rival Hillary Rodham Clinton's words back on her Wednesday, saying her vote to authorize the Iraq war was "irresponsible and naive."

Clinton had used the same language a day earlier to criticize Obama for saying he would be willing to meet with leaders of nations such as Cuba, North Korea and Iran without conditions within the first year of his presidency. Clinton said renegade leaders could use such a meeting for propaganda and that envoys below the presidential level should begin diplomatic work.

1. I'm always amazed at how fightened of propaganda some Dems are.
Shit, bush is the worlds #1 terrorist and they all meet with him, and he uses it for propaganda.

4. I saw the interview...He looked out of his element, frightened and scared.
His face was solemn. He was nervous, tripping and stumbling over his words. Almost as if he wasn't cognizant of what he was saying just repeating empty words with one foot in the door, off balance, leaning away from the reporter, indicating he wanted to end the interview.

I will say this. Obama was totally unprepared to justify his answer. It was the 'deer in the headlights' look someone mentioned the other day, would be Hillary. Now we were looking at Obama. As if he had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar or worse, getting a speeding ticket from a traffic cop who didn't recognize him.

You are just too funny for words. You've got to be kidding. Hillary's inner warhawk was out there for everyody to see. Obama was shocked that she would actually oppose talking to world leaders, considering the number of times she's said you don't make peace with your friends.

11. you sound like your rofl so hard your crying..
Obama has made a deadly error. He should have just shut up! When you're in a hole you stop digging. In his case he's called in the shovelers like you and a dozen others who chose to keep shoveling, digging Obama in deeper. Obama was shocked because he hasn't a clue how foreign diplomacy works and the protocols in place for years and years with 20th century presidents.

People see through Hillary. The comments are from voters not media. It is a nice change to see what the voters are really thinking.

22. The media has already asked why she did something like that
It gave Obama the opening he has been waiting for. Experienced politicians know not to attack someone if you do not have to. Oh well, I guess she will learn. Oh that's right she does not have that much experience as the media has been trying to push anyway.

25. she made a mistake in going after him. I heard the campaigns had
access to the questions and this was probably planned by her and her flying monkeys. She did not expect Obama would so effectively shoot back and hard.

13. That's why we need a change!
It's a new century. Colonialism is dead. We need somebody who understands how to deal with the world on an equal footing. Clinton clearly doesn't.

She's the one that has to explain why she's continuing with the same stubborn, arrogant diplomatic strategies of George Bush.

26. Contrary to your un-sourced assertion, Hillary's poll numbers have increased
since the debate. People are beginning to see the value and importance of experience rather than electing an unproven producer as the next president. Obama's numbers will continue to slide basically by his own hand, due to his lack of campaign experience, not knowing how to critically respond to an attack. I imagine he'll fold like a cheap suit if the Republicans start attacking him OR over-react with the wrong defense, as he is doing now.

Monday's release marked the fourth consecutive ABC News/Washington Post poll that found Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., with a lead of 15 or 16 points over Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in Democratic presidential nomination matchups featuring all of the active candidates.

The latest poll, conducted last Wednesday through Saturday among 606 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, showed Clinton with 45 percent of the vote, Obama with 30 percent, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards at 12 percent, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson with 3 percent and others with 2 percent or less.

68 percent of Clinton voters said they strongly supported their candidate, versus 56 percent of Obama backers. In the February ABC/Post polling, Obama supporters were 4 points more intensively supportive of their candidate than Clinton backers, but in the three successive polls, Clinton's support grew more intense. What started as an edge of 8 points in April was 10 points in June and 12 points in the new poll

"When asked who had the best chance to defeat the Republican nominee in the general election, Clinton beat out Obama again, 43 percent to 27 percent."

"The latest poll, conducted last Wednesday through Saturday"

Your poll was conducted before Monday night's debate, not after.

Just weeks before the first caucus. You're going to have to do bring something better than polls of voters who admit they aren't paying attention to debates or anything of substance.

5. I think this dustup is actuallly very informing
Hillary Jabs.. and not only did Obama not duck the punch by counterspinning his meaning. He threw a solid left cross on tuesday pointing out that Hillary has sais essentially the same thing a few week afo when she criticized Bush for not talking to thjoe we do not like
It was a marginal.because it is a new cycle of the Day type story.. but the counter punch today pushed it to a second news cycle and puts HrC on the defensive for the moment. because she continues to defend her naivete. It is an issue of concern to millions of Democreate.

This is actually healthy invigoraing stff. and I am pleasantly surpisred their is substance behind the argument. Good For Obama for not ducking and weaving Hilaruy's criticism which while valid on its face was not a particualty deep issue.

The more important point is that she tried to bedismissive of him as a lighteight whe she went after his qualifications and he countered with a solid left right combo.on a very important point.

Jolly good show. Clearly a warning shot by Obama...."You do not want to make this about gravitas"

3. It is amazing that
anybody who loves or advocates peace, in its true and real sense, would take such a strong part in the battle or fight that takes place between candidates vying for a place of power.

Does anybody see the contradiction in that? The candidacy for the Democrat Primary is getting a lot war-like, duke it out, battle related references, while many of us are looking for peaceful and amicable solutions to our immediate problems.

What gives with that? Is it impossible to not mimic the current paradigm and still WIN? Can't political opponents campaign and interact in a way that demonstrates both reason and peace in the process? Or are their potential constituents so immersed in a war-like mentality that this is the only way to take the power prize?

Hmmm! Maybe we are actually the problem we want solutions to, then.

9. The Democrat primary?
This is the Democratic Primary, for starters.

And yes, you do have to knock off the #1 spot in order to take it yourself. The only way to do that is convince people that whatever is in the #1 spot doesn't deserve to be there. This is a little spitball contest compared to how bad it will get in December.

When some of the Obama followers were trying to say that Clinton flip-flopped on the leaders issue, it just seemed silly and desperate (she'd never said the prez should personally see leaders in the first year), but this is a legitimate foreign policy issue to counter with. No matter how Clinton and Edwards try to explain it; millions of Americans knew that giving Bush the authority to go to war was a huge mistake from the get-go ~ they should have too. They played politics and we all lost.

He couldn't get over that "irresponsible and naive" bit.

Clinton voted stupidly, we got it. What matters more at this point is what is each of the candidates going to do to about the Iraq debacle.
