Didn't Lincoln meet with Jefferson Davis to negotiate an end to the Civil War?

1. ...
You think Nixon just picked up the phone one day and said..."Yo Mao, how about we do lunch"?

Lincoln did not meet with Jefferson Davis btw, because his diplomatic prep work indicated it would not have been to the benefit of the U.S. to do so...

5. Lincoln did have a meeting
With a delegation that included the Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens at Hampton Roads in February of 1865... but it was clear that the two sides in the Civil War had no common ground for negotiating an end to the conflict and left things to be decided by force of arms.

6. Charles DeGaulle actually was the first major western leader to meet the Chinese
Nixon admired Charles DeGaulle. The two men met for lunch at which time DeGaulle told Nixon that the Chinese wanted to meet him and that they wanted to open a relationship with the United States. Nixon followed up.
