The drama going on between the Democratic campaigns reminds me of my kids fighting when they were little.
I barely hear it.
Is that strange?
Maybe I'm holding my breath for Al Gore.
Sigh.

difference from eachother? Surely they have more differences in policy. It does seem childish to me but then I have no emotional attachment to either of them.

9. Actually, this is why it is a big deal. They have no other differences in policy |
|
The only other differences are on "merit pay" in education, which is not a big enough issue to fight over, and health care, but HRC has no plan yet so she cannot criticize Obama on health care at this stage.

2. I only hope whomever is the candidate will take the responsibility seriously |
|
and address the egregious breaches of integrity over the last 6 years.
End the war. End torture Return habeas corpus and all the other brutalized civil rights restore the balance of the checks and balances system fire all bush loyalists in the DOJ and elsewhere, and replace them with men and women of integrity, regardless of party Restore diplomacy with the rest of the world REscind the preemptive strike strategy Make reparations to Katrina victims and their families Institute Universal Health care End outsourcing and welfare for corporations who intentially pillage and destroy our economy to line their own pockets
I challenge whomever the candidate is to take that list seriously, and accomplish those goals.
Because if they do not, We will see the end of this country as we grew up to know it.

5. I was very pleased that the House addressed the permanent bases |
|
I think the problem is that there is so much that needs to be done to undo the damage already inflicted on the constitution, foreign policy, etc., it seems overwhelming.
I think if the candidates stop speaking in generalities and if we expect more than sound bytes, maybe we can get some answers as to the path back to, hell, I'd settle for normalcy, but we could be so much better as a nation with a real leader.

13. I know. I personally like most of the candidates, but I wish we had an honest to god leader |
|
that people could, without equivocation, get behind.
If I could synthesis some of the better qualities of all the candidates and make a supercandidate...but that is why I'm saying this, but probably not explaining it well. Why should we have to settle or fudge or shave the percentages or whatever?
In a country of 300 million, its this hard to find a handful of people PERFECT for the job?

As a gross generalization, I truly despise what they have become and what the bastards have done to this country.
And a Democratic president and super-majority in Congress will be an opportunity that I want to see utilized to its fullest extent and not be the same old, same old to the point that we lose that majority two years hence. This is a real opportunity to do a serious overhaul of America.
But I digress.

The whole election process stinks. It's steeped in money. The MSM relish being bitchy Heathers and mucking up the process.

My friends and I in real life have a great time discussing politics. Here people get their panties in a wad over minutia.
I am a virgin here though ... I missed the 2004 primary & general election at DU.
Maybe that's it. Better pull up my socks.

22. I'm holding my breath too, in a different way. |
|
I am desperate to see Democrats kick some ass with the Republicans for a change. I can't take another election where our guy takes the high road while the GOP pisses all over us. I cried for 2 days when George Bush was re-elected. I swear I'd never been so disgusted and disappointed in my entire life. I kept waiting for some Dem or anybody at all to come out and lead us out of the heartbreaking demoralization of having lost to the biggest group of scandalous lying manipulative thugs ever to run our government. But we don't have anyone like that. Just us regular folks on the internet to validate one another and reassure each other that the whole country hasn't gone completely mad. I credit DU for helping me maintain my sanity. But the blogs aren't as powerful as what the GOP has.
Their side has got so many coordinated people on the attack at all times through t.v. and radio and all our hopes pretty much lie with the effectiveness of our nominee to be an absolute rock. Our guy has to be able to beat them at their own game.
Clinton and Obama can sharpen their claws on each other if it helps them. I don't care about that either. It's just that this first fight is kind of the first test to see how well they can handle it. I'm holding my breath because I'm hoping that they both come out even stronger.

27. It reminds me of kids fighting over who has the best toy, specifically video game systems... |
|
Fanboys and fangirls getting into rhetorical fistfights over nothing substantial. I find it ironic that so many here voraciously attack each other based on who they support and then, on this particular thread, claim unity when none exists in reality. Even worse, most of the criticism of the candidates isn't based on policy or issues, but more likely to involve personality or perceived deceitfulness and innuendo. This type of poisonous atmosphere is but one reason why I'm glad I'm not a member of any political party, too much drama involved.

No, YOU'RE a poop-head!
No way, YOU'RE a poop-head!
Mum, he called me a poop-head!
She IS a poophead!
Am not!
Are so!
No, YOU'RE a poop-head!
Muuuuuummmmmmm!!!!!!!!!....
At which point, Mum usually counted to ten, seperated them, shut the doors behind them until they could be civil, and that was that.
But, yes, that's what this has reminded me of from day one.
