Dodd, Biden critical of Clinton-Obama duel
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 02:26 AM by draft_mario_cuomo
Both likely score points for appearing above the fray, and notice Dodd's subtle jab at Obama and his "new kind of politics" theme.

Dodd

==Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.) deplored their argument as a "false debate," saying it "has become just another personal argument among politicians and that's lamentable given the stakes in this election.

"There is nothing new about this kind of politics and it certainly doesn't demonstrate a readiness to lead the nation when our reputation around the world is in tatters," Dodd said in a written statement.==

Biden

==Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.), chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, dismissed the Clinton-Obama clash as a "squabble," criticizing both candidates for giving Republicans an opening to characterize Democrats as unable to present a united front on national security issues.

"Petty arguments about foreign policy credentials will not get mine-resistant vehicles in the field any faster and will not get our troops home any sooner. Already Republicans are seeking to divide Democrats on the one issue that they have no credibility on after 4 1/2 years of President Bush's failed policy in Iraq," Biden said.==

1. They recognize foolishness when they see it.
Clinton and Obama are headed for a train wreck. neither one of them are capable of being president. They are both bought and paid for. Shillary is certainly "Bush lite". Obama is just lite.

25. She's a shill for Bill!
She's doing an end run around the two term rule! Man & Wife are like one. You can believe the Republicans will hit her with that if she wins the nomination.

2. I appreciate Dodd and Biden acting like responsible adults and thus proving
that they are more mature and wiser. Honestly, both of these men have more qualifications than Clinton and Obama- especially in the area of foreign relations.

16. Sorry to sound so mean-spirited
but I'd like to see them squabble themselves both out of the running. I just looked at both of their top contributors and I'm thinking, why would I want either of them? Looking where the money comes from tells it all. Both are too business as usual for my taste.

38. Shhh.
Maybe they won't catch on.

She can't ever lose, and he thinks he'll gain by flailing on her some more. They both look self-absorbed, petty and deceptive the more they persist.

With all the money they each have, you'd think there'd be SOMEONE in their respective camps who can talk some sense into them.

It's so grating that it's like they've become two torture devices: The Iron Maiden versus The Rack.

Hillary and Obama are bought and paid for. The big money is buying a Democrat this time. They figure that Bush has killed the Republicans for the near future.

28. I agree. Follow Wall Street's money
When one Democrat raises almost as much as McCain, Ghouliani, and Romney combined on Wall Street there is something that is not kosher in that candidate's stance toward corporate America...

36. I'll agree, Dodd has not caught on.
But it's unbelievable that he and Biden are not near the top of the pack. i think that right now it is all name recognition. The media just keeps Hillary, Obama and occasionally Edwards in the forefront. Biden and Dodd don't get a mention. It's disgraceful.

31. Looks like they jumped in the fray, not out of it
They're just trying to score cheap political points. This shows how desperate they are. By having this fight, Obama and Hillary are only further defining themselves as the frontrunners. The other candidates have become more and more irrelevant, which is why they're lashing out like this.

33. Any politician would have done what Edwards, Biden, and Dodd did
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 01:10 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
You know Obama would have seized on this to make his "new kind of politics" spiel. ;) Obama and Clinton are only weakening themselves with this, not further defining themselves as the frontrunners. Look at the recent polls. Obama is actually losing ground to Edwards now (15 point national lead over JE a week ago, now only a 8 point lead). I think this is largely because of Edwards' strong debate performance and the fact that Obama always declines in the polls after a debate, but partly because of the name-calling between HRC and BO (which hurts Obama more, because part of his appeal is based on being viewed as a "different kind of politician").

37. Translation: Dodd and Biden are jealous of the press that Hillary and Obama are getting.
Edited on Tue Jul-31-07 12:25 AM by IndianaGreen
Dodd's refusal to defund the war in Iraq and to support the impeachment of Gonzo and Cheney shows a lot more about his lack of "readiness to lead the nation when our reputation around the world is in tatters."

Biden's bizarre proposal to partition Iraq, without bothering to ask the Iraqi people, in order to make it easier to fulfill the war goals of turning Iraq's oil industry over to American oil companies shows Biden as one of those that are "unable to present a united front on national security issues."

39. If they were jealous of their press exposure could you blame them?
The Media is trying to dictate our election choices and I resent that. And you need to get your shit straight, Dodd voted to de-fund the war. Biden was the only one who voted to fund the troops. How do you know Biden didn't talk to the Iraqis about his plan?
