Why, Massachusetts? Why?
I've been very proud of my state for putting down the GOP Kool-Aid. Yet, as proud as I am that he receives a negative rating in my state, it fails in comparison to what you Bay Staters have been able to accomplish.

According to the latest SurveyUSA opinion poll, Shrub has a 42% approval rating in Alabama. When I first saw that, I was thrilled. Then, out of curiosity, I checked the percentages in some of the bluer states. What did I find? Minnesota was 29%, California at 25%, New York was 23%, and Massachusetts at 19%! 19 percent! Why must you torture me? I jest I jest.

Keep up the good work, folks. If the nation is seeing him as a fraud in one of the most conservative states, we've got to be doing something right.

P.S. Massachusetts posters, you have a truly beautiful state. Escaping the Dixie humidity in favor of a jacket at Fenway Park was nice for a change!

You'd need a magnifying glass to find a rethug in the state senate!

Glad you enjoyed your visit here! ;)

But please turn off the southern humidity spicket that's pouring into MA this week!

 It's killing me! ;)

4. Surprisingly,
the Alabama State Senate and House are very Democratic. I believe there's a 25-15 split in the Senate and 62-43 in the House. We're not on the level of your state, but for a red state like Alabama, that's very good...

As for the southern humidity, I'm about to go cut grass in it now and I'm guessing it's not going to be pleasant.

It was pretty chilly. Upper 60's with a breeze.

I'll put it this way, if Alabama has that type of weather for a November football game, I'll be thrilled.

6. What is this "GOP" thing people keep talking about?
We used to have some GOP types here in Massachusetts. The elders speak of them.

Of course, the truth is, we just got over 16 years of republican Governors. What was that all about?

Yes you did, his name was Mitt Romney, aka Flip Flopney.....Of course, when he ran for governor he ran on a liberal platform, compared to the far right platform that he's using for his presidental run, as he desperately is courting the far right religious crazies...

Romney is a creep of epic proportions, I hope MA voters would never support him if he were to get the nomination....

15. 29% in Minnesota? I'm ashamed
That number must be made up mainly of Pawlenty/Coleman supporting yuppie scum that moved here from out of state for the "quality of life". Which is now deteriorating thanks to that same group's inability to grasp that Minnesota was a great state because most of us were willing to pay the taxes to keep it that way.

16. C'mon, that's ridiculous

I was one of those transplants (3 years). I stopped working to volunteer for the Kerry campaign.
At the office I worked, many of the volunteers came from another state. While everyone in MA
complain about taxes, I never heard a complaint in MN. I did, however, feel the passive distrust
in "foreigners". The political energy is great in MN, but it is a swing state, so this poll doesn't
surprise me. The red votes come from rural areas and suburbs. Every out of stater I met live in
either St. Paul or Minneapolis.

Remember the E85 incident? Those blue votes turned red because a tired politician didn't quickly
register the question. Pawlenty won because of it (YUCK). These people needed to lighten up.

19. You've never heard a complaint in Minnesota about taxes?
What about Pawlenty and his pals with their "no new taxes" pledge and his veto of the DFL bill this year that would have raised income taxes on the top 1% and given property tax relief to the middle class? They carried on as though the DFL was going to raise taxes on everyone and there were many letters to the Strib whining about taxes as well as calls to Minnesota Matters on am 950 from conservatives moaning and groaning about it.

When I look around my office at the nuts that still like Pawlenty, they do fit my definition of "yuppie scum". A lot of them are transplants (mainly from the south, none are from the midwest or blue states outside of the midwest) - not that there aren't natives around here with bad attitudes who I would also classify as "yuppie scum". Many people have incomes that puts them in the "yuppie" class, but it's the attitude that determines if they're "yuppie scum".

20. He should never have been re-elected in the first place!

Like I said, blue votes switched over to him. Nothing to do with "taxes".
It had to do with the E85 question. Righteousness killed our nominee's
lead. That was a big turn off for me.

No, I never once heard anyone complain about taxes in MN. Yes, I saw
campaigns complain, make promises...Here in MA, I hear complaints ALL
the time. People love to complain here. Hehe. Total opposites of Minnesotans,
who bottle it all up, seethe and lash out in a very controlled passive aggressive
way. I was shocked when I moved to MN, then shocked again when I moved to MA
(forward has a new meaning here). Love both places, don't get me wrong. I was
especially happy to be in MN during the presidential campaign...to see Kerry win MN.

I don't believe a group like this will ever be too effective in such

32. Sadly, they have been effective
It's pressure from them that has resulted in all the "no new taxes" crap from the Republicans and the tax cuts in recent years that has caused a decline in Minnesota. Forget adding a new lane, we can't fix the roads we have, state parks have cut back on staff and when they're open. Of course, no new taxes means no raise in income taxes, but property taxes (one of the most regressive) have soard as cities try to maintain basic services (including police and fire) while the state aid to cities has been cut - and don't forget the 30,000 people cut from Minnesota Care. We've also seen a rise in user fees - including the "health impact fee" added to cigarettes.

Basically these guys and their ilk are just opposed to the upper income levels paying their fair share. But their propganda works on the middle class even though they're ones getting screwed.

But I live in MA and we have been losing 80-90,000 people a year. In my city, Springfield, the largest highschool has just been decertified. We are becoming a state of the very wealthy and a welfare class. The middle class is bleeding and voting with their feet on the glory of living in MA.

30. Money
that's what gets people elected in this country:

"Romney contributed $6.3 million to his own campaign during the election, at the time a state record.<37> Romney was elected Governor in November 2002 with 50 percent of the vote over Democratic candidate Shannon O'Brien, who received 45 percent."

I'm sure the bastard outspent O'Brien by plenty...

35. Three reasons why Romney got elected
1) He ran as a pro-choice, pro-gay, moderate Republicker

2) Someone has infected Massachusetts with a meme that we need a Republick Governor to "balance" the Democratic super-majority of legislators in our state, lest they tax-and-spend us into oblivion

3) Money. Lost of money. Lots and LOTS of money.

What is he hiding? Is he being petty? Is he showing his contempt for the soldiers and the public in general? Is he covering up a criminal act. Write letters to the editor about the Pat Tillman case. Put pressure on bush and his Republican toadies to come clean on Pat Tillman.

34. Oh God, as for South Dakota...
We get letters to the editor of the Rapid City Journal like this one:

"Bush haters should wake up and realize damage they do:

Some Presidents weren't moral or nice people. But, they were still the President of my country. I am American first and South Dakotan second. I stand behind Democrat and Republican presidents. This is my country, whether it's right or wrong. It's still my country, and I feel the same way about the President. I am sick and tired of you Bush bashers. The only thing you're doing is showing a negative America. I don't care how he was elected. He was elected. Get over it. You Bush haters don't care what it costs in lives or money just so long as you can make Bush look bad. In my book, if you can't back the elected government officials, you are not a true American. A true American would work at defeating someone in the next election. But, you Bush haters are just mean people with no other agenda than to tear down the man regardless of what it costs America. That's wrong. The mean and hateful things you say all the time about Bush reflect on our country's government. Are you so blinded with hate you don't care? Your hate is destroying America. Wake up."

The ignorance and blindness of some sheep is alarming. I could point out every flaw in his letter, but you all can find them yourselves.

Britney Spears: 'Trust our president in every decision'
Wednesday, September 3, 2003 Posted: 11:27 PM EDT (0327 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A gum-smacking Britney Spears told CNN Wednesday that she has never before kissed a woman and never would again -- unless the woman is Madonna.

<snip>

SPEARS: Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes and should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens.

CARLSON: Do you trust this president?

SPEARS: Yes, I do.

CARLSON: Excellent. Do you think he's going to win again?

SPEARS: I don't know. I don't know that.

CARLSON: You worked with Pepsi for a long time. Candidly between you and me, how much Pepsi do you think on an average day?

SPEARS: I really do like Pepsi.

CARLSON: Really?

SPEARS: I really do.

CARLSON: What's your favorite kind?

SPEARS: My favorite kind of Pepsi? Pepsi's Pepsi.

CARLSON: You don't drink Diet Pepsi.

SPEARS: No, just regular Pepsi.
