FBI Head Contradicts Gonzales Testimony
Lawmakers Want Probe of Attorney General; Rove Subpoenaed
By LAURIE KELLMAN and LARA JAKES JORDAN,AP

WASHINGTON (July 26) - The head of the FBI contradicted Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' sworn testimony and Senate Democrats requested a perjury investigation Thursday in a fresh barrage against President Bush's embattled longtime friend and aide.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you think there should be a perjury probe of Alberto Gonzales?
Yes 83%
No 15%
I'm not sure 2%
Total Votes: 46,809
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Do you agree with the decision to subpoena Karl Rove?
Yes 84%
No 15%
I'm not sure 1%

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a third blow to the Bush administration, the Senate Judiciary Committee issued subpoenas to compel the testimony of Karl Rove, Bush's chief political adviser, in connection with its investigation.
"It has become apparent that the attorney general has provided at a minimum half-truths and misleading statements," four Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote in a letter to Solicitor General Paul Clement calling for a special counsel to investigate.
"I'm convinced that he's not telling the truth," added Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
The developments marked a troubling turn for Gonzales as well as the administration, which has been on the political defensive since congressional Democrats launched an investigation seven months ago into the firings of U.S. attorneys.
6. Yeah it's been voted on and the votes are going OUR WAY
~~~~FOR THE TIME BEING~~~

If enough repukes vote....it will lower the vote and Gonzales will get a GET OUT OF JAIL CARD.

I want it to be 194,952 **AGAINST** Gonzales and Rove. That is NOT hard to understand. The more VOTES there are....the better the poll will look.

It's regular American's providing their opinion saying they are SICK AND TIRED OF KEEPING THE LIAR -- GONZALES -- As Attorney General. He should be out on his can.

7. Perhaps the results will be freeped, but in the meantime, I am happy
that the 83 and 84 percents are on an AOL poll - AOL - bastion right wing supporter of this regime.

9. Business before pleasure.
We should commit to calling or writing to someone who matters before we participate in these endless polls. I think too many people think that they've done their job after responding to this kind of ad agency survey. Does AOL really care what the answer is? Does anybody else care what AOL reports? I am confident that only people who would actually pay attention to a poll like this are advertisers and ad agencies. It's a cheap (free) and easy way to measure audience and also to determine editorial content.

I think I will send $50 to the DNC each time before I allow myself to respond to any of these anymore.

17. problem with your statement
the fact that there are HUGE numbers going AGAINST Gonzales and Rove IS IMPORTANT....can't you see that? It is not just some "dumb AOL poll" -- it is HUGE numbers of American people who are understanding how this Administration has broken the law and LIED about it time after time.

People are starting in ~~their own way~~ to speak up!!! It's not just a right wing aol poll. Wake up and hear the people yelling....we are mad as hell.

Give your $50 bucks to the DNC! I'm disabled and can't work and don't have the money. I will show my support FOR Democrats and what's right any way I can and if voting in polls comes up....calling my senators & congress or whatever, I'll do it.

19. I'm just saying that a poll like that has zero reliability for
determining anything except website traffic. It just takes one group like MoveOn or the Christian Coalition to make those numbers be anything they want.
The huge number that are pissed off would have to express themselves (ourselves!) in real polls or in some other organized way to be heard.

A poll like that has even less validity than a poll here on DU. At least on DU there is a finite membership list from which demographic data could probably be derived. That AOL poll isn't random OR controlled.

If it makes people feel better, that's cool, but I don't think people should view voting in something like that as a substitute for action that actually furthers the goal.
