Face it ... there is impeachment ..... or there is nothing. There is NO middle ground.
The Congress can write up as many subpoenas as there is paper in Office Depot. They can vote for charges of civil or criminal contempt as many times as they care to flap their voting arms.

Unless there is someone there to enforce their orders, they're essentially meaningless.

They will ask the DoJ to enforce the order. But that's laughable on its face, since the DoJ is at the very core of the current crisis. Also, the Bush boy has already told them to ignore such requests. Maybe that's unconstitutional to have done, but so what? You wanna make somethin' of it, sucker? Go ahead and try.

Sure, they can go to court to try to get citations enforced, but we all know how long that will take. The Bush boy will be firmly ensconced at the family fortress in Paraguay by then, comfortably protected by 110 Secret Service agents and a contingent of Blackwater Storm Troopers for Jesus.

So what are the other options?

I see only two:

Option One: Fugghedaboutit

Option Two: Impeachment

Can anyone add another option?

I think not.

1. If we don't nip the "unitary executive" in the bud now, we never will...
I want a Washington, NOT a Mussolini!

4. We're truly in a constitutional crisis
The Executive has told the rest of the government to go fuck itself.

There's no other way that can be spun. When Gin Blossom George told the DoJ not to enforce the subpoenas, that was it. He has overstepped his authority and nobody can stop him. First they took away habeus corpus and now they take away our last line of defense.

How can we NOT be in a crisis?

2. Can you believe that's the only option left, when a year ago no one
hardly dared breathe the 'i' word? Kind of puts the Dems in a pickle; how will they act?

5. Good luck with that.
I know it seems possible. I deeply fear no one in government has the balls to do it.

Yep, that will work alright.

12. Play out the scenario for me.
We bring up impeachment in the House. They vote to refer. it goes to the Senate, where the Chief Justice would preside, and then what?

16. The Chief Justice presides.
He doesn't vote. He's the judge, not the 'jury'.

14. Vast massive public outcry for multiple immediate resignations based on copious
blatant and brazen illegalities and innumerable violations to their oaths to defend the constitution is my third option and eternal fervent hope.

20. With all the crimes they've committed, would they step down willingly?
I'd love to see these guys just give up and go home, but they're in it up to their eyeballs if anyone ever really investigates and prosecutes them.

They know that.

I'm fairly sure that if it doesn't look like they can pardon themselves or escape or steal yet another election, they'll cancel 2008.

They really can't afford to let anyone else have power now.

15. I think there is middle ground..@ least for right now
but by saying that, one has to have a lot of faith in our Congress.

Congress hasn't given up on impeachment either, IMHO. If that were the case, there wouldn't be investigations going on into the activities of this Administration. They would've just given up.

I seriously doubt that Congress is keeping these investigations going to keep Pres. *'s poll numbers down. I believe they are doing this to uncover more & more instances of wrongdoing that will give them enough information to get Republican members, and a broad spectrum of the American populace to favor impeachment.

now is the time for investigation, now is the time to uncover more crimes, now is the time for We The People...to rise up.

ENOUGH!

17. I agree that's what they've been doing .... and it is the right strategy. But .......
.... the clock is quickly running out.

There are MORE than enough crimes already known. They need to put all their marbles in one or two baskets and put the heat on them. This stuff about a month between witnesses and one day hearings with time limits on the questioners is theater at best, meaningless bullshit at worst.

I'd really like to see Sheldon Whitehouse lead the charge in the Senate. He's largely unknown outside of his home state and in places like DU. I say that to contrast him with Chuck Schumer, who would also be very good as a prosecutor, but is too well known and too much a front line partisan to be seen as pursuing this with legal rather than political motives. Whitehouse is a long time prosecutor and so far has shown himself to be fearless and with an excellent grasp of the fine points in this whole milieu.

18. I agree...it is taking time..and that's an issue
to be dealt with. Which is the reason, We The People must begin to stand up..and say ENOUGH!

I really don't feel that the American public, right now, would be behind this issue..that's not even to mention the GOP super-minority...So basically...give them more time..but also, give 'em a backbone by standing up!!
