Employees of the state of NM are contributing to NM. I made a mistake and wrote "employees" instead of "employers" in the OP and by the time it was caught the editing period had expired. Corporations and governments cannot directly funnel money into a campaign. What corporations can do, though, is "encourage" their employees--especially their top employees--to contribute to a particular candidate, often via bundling. Bundling is what Gravel was pointing out during the debate regarding Obama and that bank.

Are you suggesting that candidates should be reviewing each and every contribution and refuse or return contributions from employees of certain corporations or organizations? Where is this list of "forbidden" corps and orgs? Do these rules extend to labor unions, as well? Say I work for one of these bad corps but I disagree with their political leanings and want to affect change so I contribute to a Dem, am I guilty by association? Or, should I not work for them because they are bad? Or not contribute?

But we should take who is funding candidates into account when assessing them and what they would do as president. For instance, when you have one candidate claiming to be an agent of change but who raises more on Wall Street then H. Clinton and McCain combined(2nd and 3rd on Wall Street) and almost as much as Giuliani, McCain, and Romney combined we need to ask ourselves how much of a change agent can such a candidate be... We know what corporate America wants. We know they are no stupid. They invest in things and candidates who will deliver results for them.
