Can two people decide to run together for POTUS/VP before even announcing...
and then run?

I mean, if Gore and Clark had a beer and decided on a whim to literally run together with the arrangement as Gore as Prez/Clark as VP could they do it? I know it will never happen but I was just wondering if a strategy could be used to consolidate votes by putting together two candidates that would each have a following in the primaries.

I imagine it's not illegal per se, but is it against Dem party (and perhaps DU ;) ) rules?

7. Me too Bluesy Blue!

I'll never forget his 3 day visit here in 2004! Anchorage and the MatSu Valley before eventually heading out to an undisclosed location for some salmon fishing with Tony Knowles!

His first event in town was at the sold out, standing room only downtown Hilton ballroom. He never knew what hit him when he was walking off the stage and I grabbed him and gave him a big smooch while his sweet wife, Gert stood there laughing!

His 2nd public event was at the new Denali Elementary School (also downtown) and because it was free, if you didn't show up a couple hours before it started.. there was no room left in the packed auditorium. From the looks of the place, half of Anchorage, Fort Richardson, and Elmendorf Air Force Base showed up!

Later that year after Kerry had won Iowa and we were holding the caucus over at East H.S., it really blew me away how many people talked about reluctantly selecting Kerry but wanting Clark.

I still think his entire outcome would've been different had he entered the race earlier and NOT skipped Iowa.

(Woulda.. Coulda... Shoulda )

8. No.
The primaries only decide one thing: who becomes the party's presidential candidate. Once that's decided, and only when that's decided, does the candidate get to choose a VP.

There are no primaries for VP. There's nothing for someone thinking about being a VP to run for.

Gore and Clark could of course both enter the presidential race with the private understanding that if one of them wins, he'll pick the other as his VP. They could even enter the debates and joke and wink about selecting each other as their VP if they win, but what's the point? One's popularity takes away from the other's.

The only time a ticket is useful is when running against the other party's ticket.
