You Don't Know Me, But ...
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 05:58 PM by NanceGreggs
By Nancy Greggs

I am typical of those who get all of their information from the mainstream media, and news networks like CNN and FOX-News.

As a result, I feel that I am well-informed and aware of what is going on in my country, and around the world.

I know that we must stay in Iraq until we win. I have never heard an explanation of exactly what winning is, but I was probably just out of the room the times it’s been explained.

I know that things are going well in Iraq because the president says so, and he’s in a position to know better than anyone.

I know that President Bush is a good Christian, because he has said so many times – and a good Christian would never lie about something like that.

I know that if we withdraw from Iraq, the terrorists will follow us home. I haven’t figured out exactly how they’re all going to get here – especially since President Bush has made America so safe – but I’m sure the government is keeping that information to themselves, so as not to give those terrorists any ideas they don’t already have.

I know that the oil companies have our best interests at heart, and will put their astoundingly high profits to good use for the betterment of all Americans. If that wasn’t the case, they wouldn’t waste all that money on commercials to tell us so.

I know that the president and vice president have often been accused of doing things they are not allowed to do. But in every case, they have assured the nation that they checked, and found that they are perfectly within their rights to do anything they want to.

I know that Alberto Gonzales is an honest, trustworthy man, because he wouldn’t have made it all the way to being the Attorney General if he wasn’t. I cannot explain why his testimony on any number of topics has been contradicted over and over – sometimes by others, sometimes by way of documents, and sometimes by his own words – but I am sure it is simply the result of his political enemies trying to make him look bad.

I know that our elections are fair and honest, because if they weren’t, that big a news story would be all over the TV.

I know that all Muslims are potential terrorists and should be watched closely – even those who are American citizens. Just because they have lived here for generations does not place them above suspicion, unlike white Christians who are incapable of fanaticism in the name of religion.

I know that Barack Obama should never be elected president because his middle name is Hussein, which in and of itself indicates that he is not to be trusted.

I know that many Democrats have been involved in corruption and sex scandals, because I’ve seen the (D) next to names like Foley and Vitter when FOX aired stories about their wrongdoing.

I know that a few Republicans have been involved in corruption and sex scandals, but they always come on TV after being caught and remind us that God has forgiven them, which should be the end of the discussion.

I know it is imperative that American citizens be kept apprised of every detail of the lives of people like Paris Hilton. I am not certain of the reason for this, but these stories would not be on the TV news, day in and day out, if they weren’t of the utmost importance. I suspect it has something to do with national security, and I just haven’t yet figured out the connection.

I know that giving huge tax breaks to rich people and corporations is strengthening our economy, and its benefits will trickle-down to me any day now.

I know that this administration is not hiding anything from anyone. They simply refuse to produce documents, communications, and witnesses because they don’t want to encourage even more blatant witch-hunts and fishing expeditions by the Democrats.

I know that there is no such thing as global warming, because I see TV coverage of massive snowstorms every winter, without fail.

I know that the job market in the US is booming, because big companies wouldn’t be outsourcing jobs unless they had run out of potential employees here.

I know that all liberals are anti-religion, anti-capitalism, and anti-American because I hear that said over and over by everyone in the media - and that many people wouldn’t be saying it if it wasn’t a fact.

I know that Republicans are the party that supports our troops, because they never miss an opportunity to proudly say so every time they’re on TV.

I know that no matter how bad things seem to be in our great nation, things are actually going just great because if they weren’t, TV news personalities wouldn’t be as perky and chipper as they always are.

But mostly I know that when someone tries to tell me that there are facts on the internet that don’t get covered by the mainstream media, they are just trying to confuse me – and I am never going to allow myself to be confused by the facts.

I tried not to think about how close his parody was to the reality on the ground in "The Great State of Texas" where I lived at the time. Damn, I am so pleased to finally be "from Texas" instead of "in Texas".

6. Hmmm, are you trying to trick me?
I just checked your profile, and under hobbies you listed "astronomy, musician (sax), physics".

I think astronomy is a tool of the Devil, and good Christians shouldn't be delving into whether someone is a Leo or a Capricorn. You're also into physics, and I don't believe in people who claim to be able to foresee the future.

You are also a musician, and that pretty well speaks for itself - and by the way, it's spelled S-E-X and not S-A-X. You trolls always give yourselves away with your inability to spell.

44. The whole trickle-down metaphor is upside-down
Money carries weight, and those who have the most weight have settled in on the floor. They throw money upward when they spend or invest, and eventually most of it settles back down to them or their buddies. The poorest among us are so far off the ground that it takes quite a heave to get any money to them, and if they let go of it they never see it again. I think this "throw-up economics" theory accounts for the shape of our economy better than the trickle-down version does.

40. TONY SNOW HERE----->
A mini-series of proper-gander? I like the idea.
We could use that.

The saddest thing to read is the rants of "middle-class" conservatives, who have no idea that what they are supporting is what makes their "A-type" personality run its little hamster wheel so hard. They enjoy kicking the tree-huggers, until they try to take their whitebread 5-year-old soccer whiz to a forest and see the 1-year wait for a camping spot... then they complain that the government isn't doing a good job. Never mind that it is their own tree-chopping, minimum wage paying, party who underfunded the forestry service.

With the National Guard fighting their (GOP) lied into war, the fires in San Diego were the worst ever (usually the military and guard help in controlling such disasters)... similar at Katrina, where all the healthy young adults were busy playing war games in Iraq against an enemy that didn't exist, while their own families needed them--- thanks to the GOP.

You need to wear a "Pith Helmet" to avoid the pith from trickle-down economics. If the country wanted to infuse money into the system--- try TRICKLE UP... I know that money given to the poor and lower-middle classes hits the street for local goods and jobs faster than giving it to the upper class stock hoarders, who use it to invest in America's newest state, India.

The real question is "Why Does ANYONE who is not wealthy belong to the GOP?
And, the sadness is that they have been FOOLED into believing that the Masters Of The House will one day reward them with a piece of the pie. They believe that THE FUTURE is bright for them. That they are an owner or a manager, and that the tax breaks will one day help them. They also believe they will win the lotto, and then the wealthy will envy THEM.

The facts are SOOO the other direction. As America's population ages--- the promises of "living off their younger day accomplishments" has diminished. Social Security, still a VERY necessary program, will be tamed by massive inflation as soon as enough boomers age onto the program --- that their FIXED INCOME will be enough for rent and cat food.

LOOK ONLY at the auto companies who burnt their workers on a dream of retirement and benefits which they could never produce RATHER than tie the benefits to the company profits. The GOP will claim it was the UNIONS, but in fact it is the Wealthy Masters. They NEVER mind promising two-hamburgers next Tuesday for your time and energy today. They never plan on delivering the burgers so it may as well be 6.

THIS IS WHY.... all pollution reduction bills have a 20-year delivery of 20% IMPROVEMENT. Why not 1-year for 1%.... because then they would ACTUALLY have to deliver. ALL OF GEORGE'S ECOLOGY PROMISES... don't have a delivery date while he is in office. POOF!!!
Most RETIREMENT PLANS...POOF!!! Nothing in reality.

GO ON GOP... talk about truth in this and truth in that--- the concept of a working wage for a day of work is too far from these HOUSE-N!@@&*S to understand--- they think the Plantation Owner is wonderful because 7 years ago he gave them a $300 tax break. Come on up to 'de BIG HOUSE for 'de annual BBQ... then get back to the fields.

48. This one line is the perfect example of their imbecility
I know that President Bush is a good Christian, because he has said so many times – and a good Christian would never lie about something like that.

To these dumb asses, calling himself a Christian trumps the vast majority of Americans who find him to be anything BUT Christian. Bill O'Lielly calls DKOS a nazi web site, while all of his viewers have the nazi party mentality of never questioning der fuhrer, logic be damned.

The question is how can we get such imbeciles to think without having to resort to the Cher "Moonstruck" slap ("SNAP OUT OF IT!!)?

The president also said that he wants bin laden, dead or alive. How's that going, wing nut?

He told the Iraqi insurgents to "bring it on". How's that going, wing nut?

He told the Katrina victims that their government is there for them. How's that going, wing nut?

What irritates me the most is that these unmitigated imbeciles can make it through a day!

Well done Nance! I have been opining on how any present administration supporter must be spectacularly stupid, profoundly selfish or drunk on kool aid. Okay, I have always thought this about Bush supporters, but nowadays these hardcore fans are really causing me concern.
