This new thing with his campaign manager being anti-Israel and pro-immigration isn't going to score any points with the Republican base.

1. It's hilarious. He's like one of the three stooges falling on his ass
trying to get through the door, only in this case, there are about 10 other stooges.

2. He certainly doesn't seem
to be the next Raygun regardless of how much conservatives want him to be.

He came into this a blank slate and conservatives started projecting what they hoped for onto him. He hasn't tanked yet but it doesn't look good for him at this point.

6. The only thing Reagan and Thompson have
in common is they are and were both two-bit "B" actors. And neither read their lines well.

4. Ultimately, he's doomed because he has cancer.
It may not be fatal for him, but it will be for his campaign, even if he becomes their nominee. America is not going to hire a sick old man with no significant achievements and a reputation for laziness. Fred really missed his chance--the time for him to run was in 2000, when our country didn't fully realize just how important the office was, and image and personality would have been enough. Even Republicans are now smarting from the disaster of the Chimp Presidency. They'll go with Rudy, or Mittens--both are healthier, scrappy, full of energy, and have more of a record of accomplishment.

10. Kerry's had cancer, McCain's had cancer, Giuliani's had cancer.

It hasn't stopped them from running.

11. Prostate cancer and melanoma--curable. Fred's brand of lymphoma--
incurable. Remission is the best prognosis he's going to get. Different ball game. The others HAD cancer--he HAS cancer.

18. All cancers can recur, or turn out to

have metastasized when doctors thought it was cured. I know people who have died of recurrences ofprostate cancer, melanoma, and lymphoma, plus colon cancer, and one whose breast cancer returned as lung cancer.

If Thompson's lymphoma is in remission and his doctors say he can serve, I don't think we should hold his cancer against him -- not that I see any of us voting for him.

A person can have perfect health when elected and develop serious health problems once in office. So the VP candidate is important, too, and should be looked at more carefully than we usually do.

We haven't had a president die in office of natural causes since FDR but it certainly could happen again.

7. He certainly seems to be faltering, and McCain is toast. So what's
left? It looks like it comes down to Giuliani or Romney - unless in desperation they nominate Huckabee.

9. Hard to say. His wife is pushing him to run and

it turns out she's a lawyer and Republican activist, not just a woman who wears sexy evening gowns. From what I've read, she's basically running the campaign. I've also heard he has skeletons in his closet but who knows how that will play out? I wouldn't rule him out. I think both parties would be better off with a new candidate entering the race late because many people are sick of the ones being shoved down our throats by the media. The campaigns go on so long that people get tired of the candidates. There is a good bit of interest in Dennis Kucinich and in Ron Paul because they're not clones of the "top tier" candidates, but the parties would do anything to keep them from getting the nomination. It could end up being Gore against Thompson.

12. Doesn't he remind you the way bush acts.
He seems to think that people are going to fall at his feet and kiss his boots. He acts like he is above campaigning and that someone else must do it for him.

My local TN paper ran an article that detailed them. Even Nixon called him a dumb ass.

14. Unfortunately...
I think he will choose to not enter the race, robbing us of the amusing sight of his campaign crashing and burning. The Republicans are toast in 2008 and I think they all know it.

The term leading Republican presidential candidates is an oxymoron.
