Interesting theory re Roberts seizure brought on by stress
Seen lots of speculation on here as to what caused the seizure, apparently the one in 93 was brought on by extreme stress. What could have brought on such a sudden surge of stress that would have caused a seizure?

Now 2 things come to mind. First Schumers statement on Friday, that opens up endless discussion, however, isn`t Larry Flint about to go public with his list of names?

Just a thought.....

Peace

1. PSYCHOgenic seizures...
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 10:00 PM by Lenore
My first thought when I heard. I have a teen daughter who developed psychogenic seizures due to school based stress and anxiety (unmet disabilities). They can be life altering and long lasting. For example, on Sunday she started having a difficult time while out with the church youth group. They called me to come get her but some concerned bystander called 911 before I made it. I pulled up right after the HUGE RED FIRETRUCK. I was thinking "OMG not for my daughter" cause psychogenic seizures are not a 'medical' condition (per say) and in her case, the anxiety of having the fire department show up simply increased her anxiety (and psychogenic seizure activity) even more!

Roberts has had TWO different events of seizure activity w/out a known etiological cause. Sounds like psychogenic seizures to me!

3. TY For the correct term
I mean I hope the guy gets better, he has a wife and kids.I am however, intrigued as to what produced this immense rise in stress levels.

Just putting the possibility out there :0

Hope your daughter gets better...

Peace

29. I just can't bring myself to share your kindness
I just can't
Maybe it makes me a worse person. I dunno. But this... this... is such a that I just can not bring myself to wish him well.

Honestly I hope he has to step down. Or be removed for poor health. Hell a stroke that causes him to be unable to perform his function so the effect is the same as if he stepped down. This... evil... GIT has already decided on many things that no SANE MAN would rule the way he did.

God please take John Roberts and spare us all his decisions to come.

i don't care the cause or name for his seizures, I just want him gone! It's late enough in the term that the appointment of a replacement judge can be put off until the next (oh god I hope it's a dem) president is (again, god I hope) elected and the cimpinator is gone!

I know I'm a bad person, and my life has sucked enough for me to be that way. I can't hope him a good recovery. But I do hope his end comes swiftly and painlessly. That's a far kinder end than he deserves, but it would spare his family extended time of suffering. May god have mercy on his soul, for I shall not.

8. I can't agree with that
Many drugs are quite useful. Some Supreme Court members have had cancer, and of course have medication to try to control the cancer. I'm sure others have or have had high blood pressure, and take medication to control that. "A druggie is a druggie" means what? I would rather he weren't on the court, but you can't tell him to step down because of taking prescribed medications.

Mike Allen

Mike Allen
Mike Allen is the chief political correspondent for Politico. He comes to us from Time magazine where he was their White House correspondent. Prior to that, Allen spent six years at The Washington Post, where he covered President Bush's first term, Capitol Hill, campaign finance, and the Bush, Gore and Bradley campaigns of 2000. Before turning to national politics, he covered schools and local governments in rural counties outside Fredericksburg, Va., for The Free Lance-Star, then wrote about Doug Wilder, Oliver North, Chuck Robb and the Bobbitts for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where he nurtured police sources on overnight ride-alongs through housing projects. Allen also covered Mayor Giuliani, the Connecticut statehouse and the wacky rich of Greenwich for The New York Times. Before moving to The Times, he did stints in the Richmond and Alexandria bureaus of The Washington Post. Allen grew up in Orange County, Calif., and has a B.A. from Washington and Lee University, where he majored in politics and journalism.

14. You know - here's what bugs me about that comment about Spector
We all knew these guys were both right-wing ideologists ESPECIALLY Alito. And yet Spector did NOTHING to keep these guys off the bench. I know Roberts got through with a few dems voting for him (which btw Feingold was one of them that voted for him). But Alito - there was no excuse. Specter should have stop sucking up to the Bush regime and voted with the democrats. Not like Specter's seat was at risk in Pennsylvania (he's up for re-election in 2010 and will probably retire at that time)

if God loved that little Roberts boy so much that He just gave him a fatal stroke, so He could sweep him up to Heaven to be with Him.

F&%king Democrats would probably let little Bert Gonzalez be nominated, and give him a free pass.

18. I can tell you that Hubber Island/Port Clyde are about as tranquil places
as you'll find anywhere...so it wasn't environmental stress. I know where you're going with the Larry Flint comment....wouldn't that be interesting? There's been some speculation about Robert's past which, if true, could certainly be cause for great anxiety on his part. It could also be that the looming constitutional crises that seem to be percolating up towards SCOTUS could put him in an untenable position. Would he place allegiance to to the Constitution or the guy who got him there?

24. Our story so far
suggests that his allegiance to the Constitution and the precedent of the law was stronger in the confirmation hearings than it's been in the adjudication of the law.

I've seen really good people put under a real lot of stress, and it can have effects on the body and mind that can't be shrugged off.

Maybe there's a conflict between what's good about him, and what the bad people are asking him to do.

Maybe he's been a bad boy, when he looks like what every mother wants a good boy to look like, and can't handle the idea of facing that reckoning.

I wish that if there really is to be some reckoning here it would be spiritual or moral, and not just a matter of getting caught.

But then, I gave up underestimating the amorality of this regime of ours a long time ago.

19. Stress can provoke seizures in all epileptics. stress bringing it on does not mean it is
psychological. Many epileptics go undiagnosed for years, until someone actually SEES the seizure, because the person having the seizure has no memory of that moment.

23. "Idiopathic" seizures:
Who knows what causes "idiopathic" seizures? By definition, no one.

No one.

The same person who could have anticipated the insurgency in Iraq.

And the sectarian violence.

And the total breakdown of the social structures from which to grow a new "Iraqi" government.

And, someone slamming airliners into skyscrapers.

I declare this the "idiopathic" presidency, in that: no one could have anticipated it would get this bad.

27. You have to wonder.....
This would be so typical of what I see the BFEE doing. Let's say he is/was gay. He's built a new life and progressed through the legal system and becomes Bush's choice for Supreme Court Chief Justice. Now, the bill comes due and he needs to get with the program or his past becomes everyone's business.

35. If I met Roberts, I would see that he is effeminate.
I would question whether he is gay. I would not assume it because lots of men are effeminate but not gay. Whether he really is gay or not, he could easily be embarrassed about his sexuality. That is just his personality. He is probably vulnerable on this point. He married quite late and adopted his children. From what I have seen from their photos, there isn't a lot of chemistry between Roberts and his wife. But what I have seen is limited. His wife looks like an ex-nun.
