Obama's Television Ad: "Take It Back"

From the online blog of the Atlantic's Marc Ambinder...

Obama's Television Ad: Take It Back
31 Jul 2007 11:37 am

http://www.barackobama.com/takeitback.html

Lots to say about this first television ad of Barack Obama's, but for now, just know that it's remarkable how confidently Obama's wields his consensus-bipartisan message in front of partisan Democratic audiences. The ad begins tomorrow. The size and duration of the buy are unknown at this point.

OBAMA SYNC: I know that I haven't spent a lot of time learning the ways of Washington. But, I've been there long enough to know that the ways of Washington must change.

ANNCR V/O: In the Senate, Barack Obama challenged both parties to pass tough new ethics rules and rein in the power of lobbyists.

And he’s leading by example, refusing contributions from PACs and Washington lobbyists who have too much power today.

OBAMA SYNC: They think they own this government. But we're here today to take it back.

2. TPMCafe reports the ads will begin running in Iowa tomorrow. Seems Obama has turned it up a notch.

5. Very nice.
I was fortunate to have caught a live web-cast of his official announcement, great stuff. The stuff of great campaign ads even!

6. He sounds like a 3rd-party candidate, coming from within.
And that's a winning combination - acting like an outsider, who's going to Washington to clean things up.

7. The timeline
of these clarion calls for progressive change seems to have him borrowing from Edwards' lead. Which is the right direction and just fine. Just as Edwards is taking from DK and the progressives. W.J. Bryant stole the populists' thunder to face down the big corporate machine. That's politics and sets the stage for ruling for the people's interests(if you win).

I am not trying to be nasty since this is good that our eventual candidate is going to come from the "democratic wing" of the party, hopefully. It is also smart and shows how Obama politically values the best directions. Overall, this is a plus for all of us.

Good idea for an ad ~ reminds me of a JFK or Bobby Kennedy moment.
