Why Libby perjured himself, and why the right wing is banning "Damn Yankees" the musical
Libby lied because the 10 Commandments are not allowed in courtrooms. Well, not their exact words, but it is the sentiment.

Libby Perjury Linked to Lack of Ten Commandments Monument in Court

"Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore responds to the conviction of Cheney aide Scooter Libby on perjury charges by linking it to the supposed ill effects of the separation of church and state"

We can expect more perjury by high-ranking government officials if our legal system continues to remove from its courts and its oaths the knowledge of a sovereign God who punishes evil. …

While the ACLU and other anti-Christian groups engage in a crusade to rid the courts of solemn reminders of God, they undermine the moral fiber of the legal system and its discernment of truth in the pursuit of justice.

Today I read about a principal of the very elite performing arts high school in our area.

It's a long article, and since I have had my own words and confrontations with him...I will just post a snip:

Principal Wants Petition Stopped

In the case of "Damn Yankees," Collins said musicals are decided on by a committee. He said he is a member of that committee and that another teacher raised a concern about the title. However, he said it was less about the title and more about its marketability.

He said the committee was concerned about how well the play would sell and how well the school could market it with posters that say "Damn Yankees." Rather than risk much-needed revenue, he said the committee opted for a different production.

Ilene Fins, a teacher in Harrison's theater department and director for the upcoming fall musical, agreed that Collins did not make the decision but that the committee as a whole did. But she said Collins does have to take a musical's bottom line into account, especially at a time when parents around the country have complained about lines in such favorites as "Grease" and "South Pacific."

"The job of principal is of producer," she said. "… It was brought up in the committee that it could be difficult to market to this community because of the name."

LOL

They are condemning musicals now??

Just when you thought it was safe to come out.

3. How about "Da Yankees!"
Like "Da Bulls, Da Bears".

Or wait. This is in the South (well, Florida). Is the problem "Damn" or "Yankees"? ;)

6. I recall a story about a church bulletin...
...that mentioned that the daughter of one of the families there, currently attending acting school, would be starring in a production of The Best Little Warehouse in Texas.

7. That prinicipal has threatened the petitioner with a lawsuit.
One must be very careful not to offend him. The county superintendent stands by him completely no matter how many call about him. That is a very difficult school to get into, and I know parents who have taken their kids out.

I will take bets that this very fundamental area is having an undue influence on that once prestigious performing arts school with their narrowmindedness.

There are lots of Roy Moore types round here.

10. Moore and his supposed Christianity...
You know, for someone who claims to be a Christian, it seems Judge Moore knows little about his own faith. If there's one basis for Christianity, it's the "good news" that the Deity is a loving parent who would rather give up his/her own life than destroy his/her human children, not simply "a sovereign God who punishes evil" (i.e. the bogeyman who'll get you if you aren't a good little boy or girl).

Would someone please send Judge Moore a one-way ticket to Afghanistan? I understand the Taliban is making a comeback; I think he'd fit right in.

12. Evidently, they read the play and feel that Mr. Applegate is too close to Rove,
and Lola is obviously just a standin for Kate Harris. . .

Guess the Damn just was icing on the cake.

Edited on Tue Jul-31-07 07:59 PM by The Witch
Are they gonna change Mr. Applegate from "the devil" to "a very very bad man"?

And is Lola just going to ask Joe for a nice chaste kiss on the cheek?

And oh my god what are they going to do about the whole "Thought about the game" song - which is easily the best song in the whole show!?!?

I taught in this county for years before I retired. Collins is squelching spirits in a school that is meant to be an inspiration for artists and the talented.

http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID=37824020&groupID=106224769&adTopicID=19&Mytoken=12475BEB-3F2E-4092-B3A056D08266A496628195

I have had words with him on other subjects, reported it, no one at the county cared.

Read this page if you read nothing else. His attitude toward people, his lack of caring.

19. Regarding the Damn Yankees thing....
since well before the bush 43 era, I have been both amused and annoyed by a particular hypocrisy of the fundie right wing. Actually, by MANY hypocrisies of the fundie right wing. But for the purposes of this discussion, the hypocrisy I have in mind is this: These people delight in telling the rest of us how strong their faith is, how it is the unshakable core of their being, etc., etc., but in reality they seem to live their lives in fear, terrified of anything that challenges or contradicts their "rock solid" faith. Titles of half-century-old broadway musicals. Gay Pride day at Disney World. The presence of Harry Potter books in the local liberry. Sunday beer sales at the race track. Their faith must constantly be reinforced from without, whether it's in the form of the hated Gummint enforcing fundie dogma as the law of the land or the local high school providing a PA system so that the thumpers can pray -- and be seen praying -- before football games. I really, really try not to be a Christian basher, and I know that many good people have come out of that tradition, but I am truely (truly?) sick and tired of these frightened little mice expecting the rest of us to live our lives in such a manner that they will never ever have to explain anything awkward to their kids.

20. The more hilarious one is the Libby crack, that judge sounds
like a cartoon.

but on a more serious note. Why did Plame get outed?

if u answered anything about her husband, buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, wrong answer.

The Joe Wilson line is pure bullshit cover. Cheney wanted to destroy Brewster Jennings, and he did. The big question i would like answered is how many of our "assets" have been murdered beacuse this cover was blown.

Can you say TREASON. Who knows the penalty of treason during a time of war, raise your hand? yes, it is death friends.

Demand your Rep sign house resolution 333 to impeach cheney!!!! 15 brave souls have signed on, a few more and the investigation ball will start rolling, creating its own momentum so that maybe even one day the corporate media may even mention it.

Not only was Valerie outed, but when Brewster Jennings was outed, everything they were working on came to a halt and all of their contacts were endangered.

26. I'm glad Moore has cleared that up for us
Libby lied simply because courts aren't allowed to display "thou shalt not bear false witness", so he just didn't realise that it's wrong to lie. And because of this, courts should be allowed to tell you that you're not allowed to worship a different god, take God's name in vain, commit adultery, or work (or make your slaves work) on the sabbath. What punishment does Moore recommend for, say, Hinduism, or saying "Christ on a bike, this judge is a dick"?
