TPMCafe: Cheney to Larry King on Trip to Ashcroft's Hospital Bedside: "I Don't Recall"
Cheney on Trip to Ashcroft's Hospital Bedside: "I Don't Recall"
By Paul Kiel - July 31, 2007, 4:52 PM

From Dick Cheney's interview tonight with Dick Cheney:

Q In that regard, The New York Times -- which, as you said, is not your favorite -- reports it was you who dispatched Gonzales and Andy Card to then-Attorney General John Ashcroft's hospital in 2004 to push Ashcroft to certify the President's intelligence-gathering program. Was it you?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: I don't recall -- first of all, I haven't seen the story. And I don't recall that I gave instructions to that effect.

Q That would be something you would recall.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: I would think so. But certainly I was involved because I was a big advocate of the Terrorist Surveillance Program, and had been responsible and working with General Hayden and George Tenet to get it to the President for approval. By the time this occurred, it had already been approved about 12 times by the Department of Justice. There was nothing new about it.

Q So you didn't send them to get permission.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: I don't recall that I was the one who sent them to the hospital.

5. No, I think this qualifies as both lie & weasel:=Liesel (cue music)
"High on a hill was a lonely goatherd, singing
Yodel-lady-odel-lady-oh-HOO-HOO!"

(nod to the Late Al Franken show)

I'm surprised that Larry asked such a pointed question; I was expecting something like:

Larry: So VP, what's your favorite color?

Cheney: Black, Larry, the same color as my non-functioning heart...

2. Maybe he just sent them with a Candygram? Get well soon?
I could see how confusion would arise if, without any knowledge on his part whatsoever, the officials Cheney had sent to Ashcroft's hospital decided all on their own to discuss unConstitutional spying on the entire American population.

3. None of these people remember anything. Not only are the unfit to govern
because they are corrupt to the bottoms of the black little hearts (please excuse the exaggeration), but they can't remember a friggin' thing. They're all mentally ill or senile.

4. So does this confirm it was the TSP they went to the hospital about?
Didn't Gonzo try to claim he went there to discuss a different program? Why am I still so confused about all this

6. If Cheney can answer this question on TV, he can answer it for Congress
Edited on Tue Jul-31-07 04:48 PM by Fiendish Thingy
Unless, of course, he reclassified that information immediately following the interview...
