1. Arlen "Magic-Bullet Pussy-Ass" Specter?
Edited on Tue Jul-31-07 04:15 PM by Cooley Hurd
Let him run his ancient yapper - the dust that comes from it only provides the earth with more fertile soil. Farmers can thank him after his mortal remains are pushing up a daisy or a tree or two...

On edit: a Rum & Coke or two, or four makes me a vociferous, caustic bastard...

6. Spector knew of Roberts history of a seizure in 1993. Says they didn't make
it public because they didn't think one incident back years was important and Roberts had a long docier and they were focussed on other factors.

Maiveaux: Alberto gonzales says that there were no

major disagreements when it came

to the terrorists surveillance

program and that the

disagreements he's referring to

are other intelligence

activities.

So, a couple of points in this

letter to try to clarify and

essentially defend what he is

saying.

The first one says, a number of

these intelligence activities

were authorized in one order.

Saying that there are other

intelligence activities that he

could be referring to.

Secondly, gonzales says he was

being very specific.

He was referring to that secret

wiretapping, eavesdropping

program that terrorist

surveillance program.

The key line in this letter

says, one particular aspect of

these activities and nothing

more was publicly acknowledged

by the president and I described

in december of 2005.

That is what gonzales says was

the terrorist surveillance

program.

So, what other program are they

talking about?

Again, they say it's classified.

It's top secret.

The third line in the letter

that is key.

This is the only aspect of the

nsa activities that can be

discussed publicly.

So what they're saying is

everything else is secret, but

what he was talking about

specifically was the program

that terrorist surveillance

program.

Blitzer>> The warrantless wiretap

program.

Malveaux>> Right.

Blitzer>> Because there are other

aspects that were authorized in

the immediate aftermath of 9/11.

Authorized by congress, extended

by the president every 45 days

or so.

That has never been publicly

discussed, even though "the new

york times" had a very long

article about it over the

weekend, other details of this

classified program that the

administration has never

publicly discussed.

Malveaux>> Right.

And, wolf, as you know, we

reported earlier in the week,

it's called data mining and

essentially the controversy is

not over the eavesdropping, but

what do you do with all the

information, the emails, all the

phone records, those type of

things?

What can the government do

legally with all of the data

that it collects?

That's what they're talking

about.

It's not what they specifically

say in the letter because they

say it's classified.

And the big question here is

whether or not senator specter

and some of the others are going

to be satisfied with this

explanation and whether or not

they're going to go forward with

those perjury charges.

Blitzer>> We'll be speaking with

senator specter.

That's coming up.

Edited on Tue Jul-31-07 04:29 PM by applegrove
if he doesn't have to give up the right to supeona Rove in the future. Thinks that he and a few others can get info out of Rove if they are in a little room somewhere. Spector wants this investigation to get a move on because the Justice Department is too important to be at a standstill.

18. No way
Rove is more responsible for the sorry state this country is in than almost everyone else. No special favors. He's not special in any way. If he don't want to live under the same rules as the rest of us, he should take his leave and find another country to ravage.

So why he would accept the first three..but not the last condition (right to supeona Rove in the future).

He's the one media focuses on...and it's as if he isn't in the Minority but the MAJORITY. :grr:

17. Snow: Letter on Gonzales Testimony Coming Later
Snow: Letter on Gonzales Testimony Coming Later
By Paul Kiel - July 31, 2007, 1:18 PM

Here's a little more information on that mysterious letter from the administration expected by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA).

After a classified briefing on the NSA's wiretapping program yesterday, Specter said that he expected a letter on the subject by noon today -- the letter, supposedly, would help explain the attorney general's questionable testimony on the program. Specter, however, indicated nothing as to what he expected the letter to say.

In today's White House press briefing, Tony Snow provided precious little information. He only said that the letter, which will come from the Justice Department, is still forthcoming, probably in the next several hours. He would say nothing about the letter's contents except that it will answer a number of questions that Specter had about Gonzales' testimony.

So we continue to wait.

Update: Transcript below.
