Poll question: Did John Roberts lie at his confirmation hearings?
Seems everybody but the ..... uh ..... world knew about his seizure 14 years ago. The White House admitted they knew before they nominated him.

When asked, during his confirmation hearing, about his health, he answered "Excellent."

Was that a lie or not? I suspect it was not. I suspect, given a history of one single incident nearly a decade and a half ago, saying he was in 'excellent' health was not a stretch. But I want to see what others think.

Did John Roberts lie about his health during his confirmation hearing?

1. Need more information.
Was it like a "how do you feel?" kind of question, or a "what is your recent medical history?" question?

3. A pro forma inquiry about this and all nominees' health
A serious question asking for a serious answer, but probably not a full medical history.

4. If you filled out a health questionaire
which asked about your health and you said it was excellent, when you did not tell about the seizure, not only would your insurance be cancelled if found out, YOU COULD BE PROSECUTED. Read the application. Why is this any different.

5. I still want to know more about those Irish kids he adopted
When Irish children are not supposed to be adopted outside the country of Ireland. So I answered "other".

6. That's a whole separate matter
No less problematic, to be sure, but a different matter.

I found the 'family' to be completely creepy. The kids, of course, are innocent and I hold them as such. The grownups, however ....... not so much.

"Stepfordian" comes to mind.

Has anyone done a physical examination of the wife? Is she a human or an android? She seems like a calmed-out, well dress, long haired C3PO.

7. No, the senate knew about his health history. He disclosed all.
He doesn't strike me as the lying type.

9. What day/session did they even ask him about his health?
I've searched the archived transcripts, and couldn't find anything.

I could have missed it.

10. In this case, no
barring any other revelations.

one idiopathic seizure 14 years ago is not a lifetime demerit on one's health.

11. Unless making Supreme Court decisions involves dangerous heights or operating heavy machinery,
I'm not sure why the occasional seizure would matter.

13. It depends on what your definition of "is" is...
Is he in excellent health now? Yes (up until yesterday, that is)

Has he always been in excellent health? No

Did he lie? Does it really matter? If it doesn't get him kicked off the bench, no.

14. Oh for the love of monkeys in funny hats...
This is possibly the most absurd thread I've seen in a long time. There are far more important things to talk about than this. Can any of you honestly say that you wouldn't say you were in excellent health 14 years after a seizure? Waste of time...

18. "Can any of you ......... "
Interesting phrasing.

Can any of us ...... ? what?

If we are us, then who are you?

You vs them?

Are you them?

That would make us us .... or 'you' to follow your curious wording.

:sniff sniff:

23. Sigh....
Can any of us? By that I mean "us" as in "all of us in the forum". I thought that was clear. I made my view very clear and I'm glad that you agree that it was a waste of time. No doubt the news has been covering this incessantly. Perhaps that would be a better topic. Why are they obscessing over this? I dunno, that's my opinion.

19. I believe it was divulged to the judiciary committee
before the floor hearings and no one thought it was an issue, including democrats. So, no, as much as I despise his ideology, I don't think he lied.

20. Is the Pope Catholic?
Of course he lied, and not just about this.

They train these a-holes for weeks how to obfiscate and lie without getting cught until AFTER they are confirmed.

22. Lying is part of their strategy. They can't not lie. Gonzales, for example, couldn't
tell the truth if his life depended on it. Nor Tony Snow for that matter. Lying is part of their repertoire and they seem to try to out lie each other.
