Cops Find 9 Adopted Kids Handcuffed, Starved

After further investigation and being granted entrance by Leekin, however, authorities were shocked to find eight people being held hostage in one of the home's bedrooms.

" initially denied being handcuffed. They seemed brainwashed or in fear of their lives," said Vega. "These people have lived there for some time and we think they all came at different times, between 10 and 15 years ago. None of them appeared to have an education past the fourth-grade level."

The people, who range in age from 15 to 27, told authorities they were kept handcuffed to one another, forced to sleep on tile floors on only a single bed sheet and were prohibited from going to the bathroom. As a result, they were forced to soil themselves.

When asked why Leekin had voluntarily allowed officers to search her home when she knew what they would find, Vega said, "I have no idea."

I cannot. I'm willing to bet the parents were collecting adoption subsidies. If they came at different times, that means no one inspected or talked to the already adopted kids without the mom and dad being there. My daughter told me this weekend that when people learn she is adopted it makes her feel somehow less--even neither of us knows how I could love her more.

10. I am sure they were. I don't understand why the state would not have been in the house

with each subsequent adoption. In Kansas, an updated home study has to be completed for EVERY adoption. To update the homestudy, the social worker has to go to the house for several meetings and walk throughs. I know when I had my homestudy done this summer, the social worker went into every room, looked in closest, opened doors, everything. I was little stricken by it, but when you read this, you know why they do it!
