The entire "War on Terror" is a load of crap.
If you want to catch criminals, you need to use a police force.

If you want to limit terrorism, you need to catch the perps and prove in an open court that the individuals that you caught are guilty of the crimes against innocents with which they are charged. If you want to limit terrorism's effectiveness, you need to guard obvious potential targets and practice rapid response to potential disasters. (You know, the opposite of what we did in both our preparation and response to both 9/11 and Katrina.)

It's called civilization. It's called common sense. It's called seizing the moral high ground. It's called being realistic about the relative strength of your enemy. It's called mounting a rational response to a well-considered threat. It's called making things better rather than making them worse.

"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."

1. Frustrating.
Isn't it?

How do we prevent these people from gaining positions of power ever again?

2. Sure is.
Katrina should have put this in perspective. What's scarier? A few terrorists blowing up something, or a Cat 5 hurricane taking out a US city and destroying an entire region? I prefer to invest in our infrastructure, levee's, and renewable/alternative energy. Not only do these threats really exist and have potential to inflict real damage* on us, but these problems also present an opportunity to provide meaningful jobs which stimulate our economy.

* not taking away the horror of 9/11, but an administration intent on stopping it would have made it a non-event.

3. To really fight this war, we need an army of accoutants and prosecuting attorneys.
Drain the financial swamps and the ME "Al Qaeda" become a local non-issue to US interests.

7. We also need a re-investigation of 9/11 first (just in case all culprits are not known, yet). nt

One "insurgent"Mr. al-Baghdadi never existed at all. He was made up ..as in a fictional person, So,I wonder how many MORE of these so called "terrorists" really don't exist? Are the soldiers running all over Iraq looking for people that do not exist? How do WE know if any of this"terra" shit is real,If there is one fake how many more are there? Nobody asks that one. Maybe we SHOULD?

5. always has been
It is just a meaningless political slogan, like the "war on poverty" or "war on drugs"

Unfortunately the republicans noise machine has managed to make it an important part of the political vernacular today, and all the candidates have to give it a credence it doesn't deserve.

6. No kidding.
We need to get to the point where we call bullshit whenever somebody talks about wars on substances or economical states or emotions. Any war is a war on people and the people pushing for the war need to be willing to identify who those people are.

10. Actually, it's a feeble attempt to replace
the Soviet Union. The Establishment needs a new bogeyman to keep the sheep scared and docile.

When we watched the doomsday clock tick closer to midnight?:sarcasm:

Someone in our Gov't apparently thought that was a great thing, since they want the same atmosphere to come from the "war on terra"...or even scarier, the way they've been pissing Putin off, maybe they want the real thing back so they can have their whole secret gov't back complete with blank checks for programs we'll never know about.

I'm not scared of the nameless muslim boogeyman, or even of the russians. My Gov't is the one scaring me. :scared:

12. I've said it like a billion times...
You treat them like criminals, marginalize them, and their support withers. Treat them like a military threat, and you just help them recruit.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

14. It's all about terrorizing the US population
by the Bush Administration.

Bush Gang should be the ones brought up on Terrorism charges for the way they have treated this country. It fits the description.

16. I've been saying this since 2001 at least
There is no united military movement called "Terrorism."

Terrorism is a tactic that can be and has been used by fanatics of all ideological and philosophical views.
