Will the R's block S.1--the ethics reform bill? Debate NOW in Senate. Cloture vote NOW!

Senator Reid is speaking. He just thanked Senator Obama for his work on bringing this bill forward, and noted that the House passed S.1 this week by a vote of 411-8.

Cloture vote starting now!

2. Looks like the R's have decided that they vote against ethics reform at their peril.

Only 5 or 6 Republican NO votes, so far. It would be difficult for them to explain to their constituents how they held up this same bill, S.1, ethics reform, that was passed overwhelmingly in the House 411-8 earlier this week.

By the way, Common Cause has lauded this bill as significant ethics and lobbying reform.

3. It has gotten this far because the Dems have a slim majority
If the Reeps were still in power, none of this would have happened at all.

8. Does the cunninham amendment affect Senator Stevens
if it passes and is made law? That is Kerry's bill that takes away pensions to people who did things like took bribes.
