Democratic Polls - Barack Obama vs. Hillary Clinton

Washington D.C. 8/2/2007 11:23 AM GMT (TransWorldNews - Top Story)
When perusing the major national polls with respect to the success of democratic candidates, it appears that the flip flop mentality that has dominated the last six months of speeches and interviews is coming home to roost. In an effort to not have the opposition abuse their opinions with respect to national healthcare, illegal immigration and also the war in Iraq, some candidates have found themselves backpedaling when asked about their voting records and last years’ speeches.

Perhaps the most famous example is Hillary Clinton who is painfully aware of Barack Obama breathing down her neck. By making it look rather easy, Mr. Obama skillfully deflects questions about his voting record, and in the case of the war, he can rightfully claim to not have lent his support to what he felt was a doomed effort. It is impossible to blame the former First Lady for trying to put her best foot forward, yet the differences in her stated opinion now and six months ago are costing her support.

USA Election Polls convincingly argues that while in January her ABC News poll figures were at 41%, in July they had slid to only 39%. Perhaps the greatest drop is seen in the Cool Political Report poll which shifted from 47% in February to only 32.3% in June. Time Magazine sees a similar drop from 47.5% in January to only 33% in April. While some polls show increases in her popularity, such as the CNN poll that reports a span from 36.9% in January to 39% in June, the question that remains is whether these number are sufficient to beat back the competition.

1. I can't quite figure out they attribute this to "flip-flopping".
Did some of these polls ask people if their opinion had changed and if so why?

2. Why do you guys post easily debunked BS?
First off that article is horrbily written openly contradicting itself.

"It is impossible to blame the former First Lady for trying to put her best foot forward, yet the differences in her stated opinion now and six months ago are costing her support."

Which this moron then debunk in the next paragraph

"USA Election Polls convincingly argues that while in January her ABC News poll figures were at 41%, in July they had slid to only 39%."

She has been hovering in the high 30's to low 40's in most of ABC's polling.

"Perhaps the greatest drop is seen in the Cool Political Report poll which shifted from 47% in February to only 32.3% in June."

The Cool Political Report? Perhaps they meant Cook Political Report? In which case their figures are wrong.

"Time Magazine sees a similar drop from 47.5% in January to only 33% in April."

"While some polls show increases in her popularity, such as the CNN poll that reports a span from 36.9% in January to 39% in June, the question that remains is whether these number are sufficient to beat back the competition."

Polling numbers have been very stable since about April with Hillary in the mid 30's, Obama in the mid 20's and Edwards in the mid-teens.

3. CNN uses Opinion Research. A company owned by Hillary's biggest backer.
