LTTE: Obama: pro and con
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 04:21 PM by AtomicKitten
This was in yesterday's SF Chronicle:

Editor: On July 31, syndicated columnist Eugene Robinson rhetorically asks, "Are white Americans really, truly prepared to elect an African-American president?"

I'm one white voter that isn't drawn to U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's skin color or racial linage, but I am a white voter that is becoming increasingly excited at the prospect of casting my vote for what I see as a clear-cut break from the most shameful aspects of our nation's history and current conduction.

If our nation were to elect this man, it just might shatter my ever-increasing pessimism. If our nation were to elect this man, it might just unveil the "America" the rest of the world has always hoped was real. Regardless of the outcome though, I will absolutely delight in casting my one vote for Barack Obama.

1. I like the way you think.
America can solve a multitude of problems with your logic and thinking. :D

4. I think many Americans are proud to support a candidate of color
and, in fact, see Obama as the candidate of hope (which has nothing to do with color).

3. So we should vote for him because of his skin color?

==casting my vote for what I see as a clear-cut break from the most shameful aspects of our nation's history and current conduction.==

Yes, a vote for *him* will somehow retroactively erase the stain of 200+ years of slavery and 100 years of Jim Crow. :eyes:

Why not extend this logic to HRC, the first competitive female candidate, or Richardson, the first Hispanic?

12. I am always thankful I have whoever that is on the Ol' I
Whenever I see a comment made by whoever that is, it is always met usually with a simple  and not much else.

I LOVE the Ignore Feature.

5. That is sweet
I mention that to people when I talk to them about why I support Obama (there are other reasons also) and I sometimes start to choke up a little bit...like you, I just think of how my ever-increasing pessimism might be quelled a bit with Obama in the Oval Office.
