Larry Flint's Invest. Reporter said he's "Shopping" a story "Major Democratic Leader is'Mobbed Up!'"
Today on NPR's show "Talk of the Nation" <http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12449042> Larry Flint's Investigative Reporter (Dan Moldea) said he's "Shopping around" a story (with David Corn of The Nation) about a "Major Democratic Leader" being "Mobbed Up"!
(at about 26 minutes into the clip)

Any guesses who it'll be?

My guess is Steny Hoyer (but I hope it's Lieberman).

Also, :hi: at about 20 minutes, he says that Larry Flint got this guy re-engaged in the Hypocrisy Patrol after he heard that "...an un-named group of former 'Intelligence Officer' are about to launch a "Swift Boat" type smear campaign against Hillary Clinton!"

Here's the story and links to the audio:

Private Errors, Public Lives

Listen to this story... (at the link)

Talk of the Nation, August 2, 2007 · The American public does not stand for moral hypocrisy in public figures, and politicians are held to an especially high standard. Last month, Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) publicly apologized for what he called "a serious sin" when he admitted to using the escort services of "The DC Madam."

Eric Dezenhall, CEO of Dezenhall Resources, a crisis management firm in Washington, DC

Dan Moldea, independent reporter

for Hillary.

And I DO wonder who the "mobbed-up" fellow might be. Not much would surprise me.

5. I think the guy just hates Republican Hypocrisy with a burning passion...
...and would do it for any of the Democratic candidates if they became the target too, as long as they stay away from "morality" hypocrisy, that is.

I agree with that view completely.

14. I'm thinking it's Pelosi or another Italian.
There is always a hint of "mob" in most people's minds when they see an Italian last name. Sad, but true.

P.S. Larry Flynt would prbably gag if he ended up running "interference for Hillary. Could be interesting.

Can't think of his name at the moment -- Greek --

but I don't think we have to presume that the corruption comes from the home state --

I think LBJ took money from everyone!!!!

39. Yeah .... Spiro Agnew
But he wasn't 'mob' ...... he was a garden variety corrupt politician. I always guessed that the University of Maryland used to offer a degree in political corruption. Contemporary to Agnew was Marvin Mandel, a former governor of ours who spent time in the hoosgow for corruption.

. . . . but in many senses Nixon was "mobbed up" and I think there's a story there about why Agnew was picked as VP . . . but I can't remember it at the moment. I'll try to keep it in mind for later checking.

3. Can't be Lieberman, he's not a 'major Democratic leader'
Not that I like Harry Reid very much (he's not very intimidating as a Senate Leader, lets just say) I really hope it's not him (the Vegas connection makes me think it could be). If it's Reid, that will be a major blow to the Democratic Party IMO.

He managed to gingerly work around the Vegas mob to get things done for the state.
That doesn't mean he engaged in wrongdoing though.

12. I completely agree.
In many respects, the corrupt Dems of the 80s and early 90s got us into this damn mess. A healthy distrust of ALL politicians is necessary for a well functioning republic. In my view, Republicans are far more dangerous, but Dems are certainly not immune.

22. I beg to differ
Dan Moldea is an old friend of mine. He prevented a right wing coup from deposing Bill Clinton. And he exposed the dirty dealings of Kenneth Starr's office by leaking evidence. He's a top-notch investigative author with considerable time on the NYT best-seller list.

David Corn I'm not so sure about. I don't trust him to be on the side of truth. His Murdoch money and the rumors of being close to the CIA don't help.

I was angry with him when he supported Iraq Invasion...But both BEFORE and AFTER he's been pretty good. Even admitting he was squash partner with someone in Libby crowd during the stuff leading up to the Trial.

I'd hate to think that Corn was a "sell out" like CIA Op Woodward. :-(

44. I would hate to think that, too
But there have been rumors of this on the Internets for years now. I don't know the truth of the matter. I am inclined to listen to Corn, but there's always that niggling tickle in the back of my mind, considering the Murdoch money, the CIA rumors, and his own actions where he betrayed progressive values -- which could have been a simple lapse in judgment that could be forgiven, granted.

31. Rahm Emanuel? He comes to mind -
he certainly counts as a "major Democratic leader" and he is a Chicago politician. Maybe he met with such types early in life, just winging it here, but Wikipedia tells us that his mother was the daughter of a "local union organizer" and that she was "also once the owner of a Chicago-area rock and roll club."

Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 02:39 AM by GreenTea
That's what it is ALL about!

And then they become, as we call them "spineless" & ineffectual Dem's, when BushCo has them by the balls or clit (of course we'll never know this, unless they rock BushCo's boat which they are far too fearful to do and then it's "leaked").

We ALL have our weaknesses...and Bushco will exploit them all, for their goals.

Nothing is more valuable than knowing ones information, secrets and plans.

BushCo listens and reads all Dem's information, strategy and plans...would you expect anything less?

Sure there is blackmail going on we know nothing about, that effects us ALL...that's laughingly Bush power and how they get off!

They are ALWAYS listening...we should of learned this a long time ago from J. Edgar & the FBI.
