This is the prefect response to the obsession with Edwards' hair.

I'm still hearing remarks on TV about Edwards' goddamn haircut and am getting pretty damn sick of it. I think this would be a perfect explanation.

Pretend this is a debate and a question from whomever has been directed towards Edwards.

"How can you be for the poor when you spend the equivilent of two weeks pay for a lot of people on a haircut?"

RESPONSE:

"Thank you for that earnest question. People have asked me about this a lot. Well, the reason I had such an expensive haircut is because of this.

(wait for it)

"I'm rich.

"I wasn't always rich and if I wasn't rich now, I would not be standing here. I earned it myself. I had help from my family. You remember my Dad worked in a mill. Unlike Mr. Bush who had everything handed to him all his life, I know what it is to wonder where your next meal will come from. I know about loss, about personal courage and about the adversity facing ordinary people.

"That's why I'm running. And unfortunately, a campaign is all about image. I guarantee you no one who is a serious candidate does not pay close attention to his or her appearance. It is too bad that it distracts people from serious matters.

1. Or
Wow it must really suck to be so fucking ignorant you can't come up with a legitimate question relative to the future of our country. I strongly suggest you find another line of work, maybe in the haircutting business.

2. Actually, that is often the best response.
Reminds me of the 1988 debate where some asshole asks Dukakis if he wanted the death penalty if his wife was raped and murdered. He should have said that was a stupid question and if the reporter has some personal grudge against Mrs. D. maybe they would like to settle it outside.

4. I posted a suggestion some time ago
That went somthing like this:

Yes it is an expensive cut...but guess what...that $400 helped that person have a better life! Would you prefer that I simply make donations that are not taxed, or help gainfully employ someone, who pays taxes and therby further helps society? Or would simply prefer that I go to Great Clips, pay $12 and continue the race to the bottom and hoard my money for myself and my family?

After all the patron saint of the right (read:limpballs) espouses how he does not do anything for himself as it pertains to home maintenance, but rather hires someone to do it, therby contributing to the economy...
