20. He kept witnesses from testitying who would have backed up what Prof. Anita Hill was saying . . . .
while telling her lawyers, etc that these witnesses would testify --

See: "Strange Justice" by Anita Hill

They were betrayed by Biden --

And, in fact, I watched the hearings until 4 am -- and Biden was BSing with a guy who was trying to make Prof. Hill look like a whore -- and finally at 4 am after many, many hours of nonsensical testimony, they guy said he couldn't remember "who had called whom" re his suggestion that Hill was pursuing him -- !!!!

Meanwhile, the witnesses who were CURRENT AND former EEOC employees were waiting to testify --
one witness had been identified -- the other were not -- there were as many as a dozen who would support what Anita Hill said of Thomas' outrageous behavior at the EEOC.

23. Another version of the story.
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 11:17 PM by Like It Is
The eight women, some of whom had been the victims of real sexual harassment and sexual abuse, testified that Clarence was a good man. They testified about working with Clarence late at night and not experiencing any of Anita's fantasies. They testified about how they could talk to Clarence about the sexual harassment and abuse that they experienced. They testified that Anita was a scheming gold-digger who couldn't trick Clarence into falling for her. They put the final nail in Anita's coffin. Showtime's failure to include them in its sordid little movie is prime evidence of the evil political intent of Strange Justice.

I don't like Clarence Thomas or his decisions. But don't twist the facts for your convenience.

134. You have the wrong women and the wrong story -- and many lies caught up in it -- !!!!
You've got the wrong women . . .

The women who would have testified -- except Joe Biden kept them from doing so while lying to the lawyers for Anita Hill and these witnesses . . .

were as many as a dozen women who worked at the EEOC and who would have testified to Clarence
Thomas sexual harassment of female employees; in some cases, including themselves!!!!

Let me suggest that you read something of what ACTUALLY happened --
and/or ask people who actually watched ALL of the hearings.

The "women" you are talking about are women called in to defend Thomas -- emplyed at the EEOC --
a highly questionable move. First, of all, who would say "no" if they wanted to keep their jobs?

Secondly, when you hear a case of let's say rape, you don't call in people to testify that they haven't been raped by the accused.

Meanwhile, you also have distorted facts on Prof. Anita Hill --
She was personally and viciously attacked by right-wing Senators Hatch, Specter and a number of others with malicious and false -- in fact hypothetical suggestions which were lies.
All, while barring people who would testify to the fact that Clarence Thomas is, indeed, a pervert.

Additionally, they tried to use an African-American young male to suggest that Prof. Anita Hill was looking for a date . . . !!! After about four hours of testimony trying to suggest that Ms Hill had been amorously pursuing him -- mainly with one telephone call -- it ended up four hours later that he couldn't remember whether he had placed the call or Prof. Hill had placed the call!!!!

MEANWHILE, you're missing a lot of facts --
Clarence Thomas' own personal friends from college openly discussed his sexual perversions --
he was addicted to hard-core porn -- that's the kind where you stand in a little black booth and watch porn flicks -- an ejaculation booth. He was addicted to foul and specifically sexual comments. This is according to his college friends! And friends at that time!

SHOWTIME? MOVIE? Maybe you want to clarify that?

Try getting to your library and actually reading "Strange Justice" --

Wherever you're getting these false reports, you should move on if you want truth.

Listen, I have nothing in common with Thomas's philospphy.
But, wht the hell did Anita Hill kept following Thomas for
several YEARS after supposedly the sexual harrasssment
incidents? She kept working for him year after year. Don't
tell me she could not find other job with a PhD.

Senator Biden has my utmost respect. He has more knowledge
on foreign policy than the rest of the field combined.

poor and uneducated battered wife?

155. Most battered wives stay in it since they have poor job skills
and can't make a decent living. In today's world,
there is absolutely no reason to stay battered if you
have the job skills to strike out on your own. Unless
ofcourse you have grave psychological problems. But that
has to be a small minority.

But again, YOU injected the battered wife argument into
my original premise which was about a PhD educated woman
staying with a sexual harrasser in a JOB! For many years!!
No comparison whatsoever with a battered wife with poor
job skills.

156. if you believe Hill made the stuff up, and your evidence
is that she followed him to another job, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it's like for a woman, and African-American woman, in the workplace, or in society in general.

and if you think that any 'employable' woman that stays with a batterer has grave psychological problems, you so greatly simplify the complexity of human psychology that I, once again, sign off on this conversation.

He's great when he's on and spectacularly foolish when he's not.
In the NPR interview, he blamed the press for not telling the truth on Iraq and leading to his pro-war vote. As if millions of people marching in the streets weren't there. I specifically remember how bad Bush's case was and we all knew Bush was lying. How did Biden miss this?

25. Hi, Like It Is. Joe's effective on the stump. Good in front of people
and reveals the depth of his passion.

And he's been around the block a few times and knows the territory.

I've always liked him, from his days as a very young Senator to lately, when he's putting a workable plan in our moron-President's lap if only the moron-President would be gracious enough to take some advice once in a while.

The John Bolton controversy revealed the true Joe Biden for me. I knew that Joe Biden was there all along, but for some of the younger Democrats I know, that was a watershed moment. Biden crushed John Bolton's nomination like a potato chip. Kerry and others assisted, so I'm not subtracting from their very effective contribution. But at the time, Biden was ranking member and the snooze-master himself, Dick Lugar, was shamed into backing Bush via Bolton.

If you want to destroy a political party, back a moron-President's selection of a right-wing kook for U.N. ambassador, and that's just what Lugar did.

Biden called him on his bullshit.

And Biden was right.

16. Very Impressive
In early 2005, I promised myself that while I would back our eventual nominee, I would support a candidate in a swing state in the primary. Yet, I can't tell you how many times I've heard myself say, "You know, I really like that Joe Biden."

I know that I'm in the minority, but every time I think of our Dem. candidates, I have to smile. We have so many bright, articulate, compelling individuals willing to lead our country out of this period of darkness.

Thank you for sharing!

38. I Agree... But How Do You Suppose A Man Who Actually Says His
financial worth is less than a million dollars?? From where I sit, he seems to have less money than even Ron Paul and Gravel! Gravel seems less capable than Paul, but he speaks his mind, but goes over the edge a bit.

The green stuff goes a long way, and buys a lot of influence. I really would like to see someone pick him as VP anyway. He's got lots of "smarts" and he doesn't mince words! The only negative thing I've ever heard about him was some "plagiarism" thing way back when! Like Kerry he believes and understands, the same goes for another man who decided he wanted to actually spend time with his family before he checked out! His name is BOB GRAHAM! I really miss him, but I think he's happier now!

And while Gore is enjoying his role now, I also think he's much happier and I really DON'T think he will run! Why should he? Just because "we" want him to and that he has proved to the world that he could have managed this country so so much better than what was thrust upon us?? He shines in a way that BFEE could never imagine in a million years!

52. The plagerism was a total scam, set up to bring him down in the election
The guy who started the story made a public apology after the election.

Biden often quoted Kinnock in his campaign speeches, and credited him. Unfortunately
one time he didn't credit Kinnock.

The guy who started the smear campaign, in his apology said that he knew Biden has credited him before.

Why didn't Biden fight back??? He was bogged down as chairman of the judicial committee, a job he didn't want, but Ted Kennedy
coaxed him into. What was going on in the judicial committee at that time? Bork.
So while the msm was questioning Biden's character, they were also praising him for his brilliant work on bringing down Bork.
Biden even convinced many on the other side to vote against Bork.

just some fyi.

45. I'm a huge Biden fan
He won't win of course, but he'd make a great SecState for Hillary.

You have to realize that in a long Senate career everyone's going to step in it a few times. The funniest thing I ever saw on the Daily Show was when Jon Stewart showed Biden congratulating Ruth Bader Ginsberg for not answering questions about current issues. Then Stewart went ahead ten or so years to show Biden castigating John Roberts for the exact same thing!

Even so, I love that Biden says what he thinks, not what people think he should say.

46. The on-site gambling sites report that bids on Biden have notably
increased in the last couple weeks.

I posted a thread on these sites' take on the presidential candidates yesterday and it spun like space trash in the far orbits.

But Biden's name had drawn pointedly more interest than ever before.

By fall sometime, I expect him to be a top-tier candidate in very real contention for the nomination.

49. Hi, demommom.
I'm no gambler. But the www.slate.com site posts the updates (weekly, I think?) in a column called "Why vote when you can gamble?"

Anyway, the trends at the moment favor our 3 frontrunners, with noticeable gains for Richardson and Biden. They exclude Gravel and Kucinich for some reason.

And for the Pukes, Giuliani draws many bids but is not holding the same formidable position as HClinton.

in the last couple weeks.

The order to date is HClinton, BObama, JEdwards -- the order they've been in for awhile -- but then very strong bidding on Biden and Richardson.

It's kind of a fun site.

50. I just watched the video. Wow
I was blown away. It brought tears to my eyes.

I watched the replay of his appearance at the Washington Press Club.

As someone commented on youtube, this needs to be submitted to Hardball.

I have become very discouraged with the way this campaign is going in spite of the excellent candidates the we have on the Dem. side.

The juvenile spat that's occurring with our frontrunners is shameful. Our country is in too bad a shape to risk splintering our party.

Joe Biden can stand up to the Repubs as he does whenever he's on Fox.

This is one of the most important elections we have ever faced and we need someone like Biden.

The other candidates are young enough to pursue their political aspirations at a later date.

I wish he was getting more press, hopefully his new book will help him. I will be making a donation to his campaign.

84. thats a horrible argument
Should we not hold anyone accountable for their vote whenever the margin is more than 1? And it would have most likely led to the troops coming home because it would have forced Bush to agree to a timetable since the alternative would have been getting no funding at all. But instead because a few dems like Biden caved, Bush got to call the shots.

We went into Iraq uninvited, we broke it. we must make an honest attempt to fix it. Our President and his cronies made a total mess of the war. Biden has a Plan for Iraq that makes sense and may bring peace to the region. We should try it, if it fails or the Iraqis refuse to implement it, then and only then we should leave. Do you need a link to his plan? Here it is. Educate yourself.

I know about Biden's plan to divvy up Iraq. I know he has a lot of foreign policy experience so I'm not going to pass judgment on whether or not his plan will work. But the fact of the matter is we can't pass his plan or any other dem's as long as * has veto power unless we have some leverage. The only way we can get that leverage is by refusing to fund any bill that doesn't put a timetable on our withdrawal, which will force * to sign a bill with Biden's or someone else's exit plan. With * in the white house the dems don't have the power to pass any bill they want, but they do have the power to not pass any bill they don't want, which is almost as important.

106. You have a point there. But, his plan is being studied by Gates,
and I had read about 1 week ago, that his plan was being implemented. It was in the NYT> but I haven't
seen anything since.

Biden's plan was based on the Iraqi constitution.
He can actually quote from their constitution.
Experts are calling it the 'perfect plan b'.

Seriously, other than leaving and hoping for the best, what else is there at this point?
Definitely not to keep surging!

I know alot of people want to just leave - but - Biden's point is leaving without having to ever go back.
If things got so out of hand with mass genocide, we probably would have to. and since we have given weapons to
every one over there, whether we meant to our not, mass genocide is probable.

Well the obvious is donate as little as $5or$10 or more if you can to his campaign on a regular basis if possible;
blog everywhere you can and tell everyone why you like him, talk to your friends and family about him(especially those who don"t know him yet) and write letters to the editor in your home area papers about why you like him and think he would be a good president. And easiest of all display Biden bumper stickers, wear Biden t-shirts and stickers or buttons, and or display Biden yard signs.:D

my once apolitical brother is so alarmed at the direction of this country he has actually become politcal!
Part of the reason is that he heard Biden talk and decided there might be some hope. He likes his strength and intelligence. He also educates people when he talks - he tells us what he wants to do and why.

Biden may not pass the liberal purity test but he has great appeal to the broader public.

98. I'm glad this thread is still kicking around. The video is compelling
and Biden's campaign has picked up the pace considerably in the last few weeks.

Of note, Baghdad does not seem more stable this morning and is likely not to be more stable next week or next month.

There's a confluence of extraordinarily bad news coming out of Iraq on one hand and Biden's established expertise in foreign policy on the other -- both lines charting for a collision this fall with the happy result that Joe Biden is likely to be a much stronger contender for the presidency as a result of the current presiden't s spectacular and tragic failure in Iraq.

113. Getting 'focus' out of debates is very difficult. I'm not worried about
any of our Democrats after tonight's debate. I feel some of your frustration about the format, but no disappointment in our people.

I'm as proud of 'em now as I was this time yesterday.

A town meeting is probably a better format for Democrats.

FOX News is going to be the only safe format for the Pukes. They better just all camp out at Brit Hume's house from this point forward.

But our people are out there in Iowa and up in New Hampshire and so on. We're bringing the issues to the doorsteps of people who are willing to listen.

2008 is a blue year. The networks haven't called it yet, but I have!

And surprisingly Dennis Kucinich, in my opinion won the debate. He had the best one liner and got all the right questions and gave very good answers. No, I'm not voting for Dennis. Joe Biden had a rough night, he tried to make a comment on a question that Dodd and Obama argued about and when he finally got the mike he had to split his time between two items and it didn't work very well. He called Edwards a Johnny come lately as a labor supporter. He said he had been a labor supporter for 34 years.

Because whoever wins our nomination in Denver is going to be the next president of the United States.

So much is riding on every debate question and every campaign stop.

I'm persuaded that a lot of the people we see on the debate stages now will be serving in our next Democratic Cabinet, no matter which of the pack forms our ticket.

I like our people and I like our chances.

They like their odds of beating the first woman nominee, or the first black or bi-racial nominee.

I have a right to support Biden or whoever, and the credit card crap is getting a little old. 133. Dean and Gore have already done way more than Biden ever could.
Some of us have long memories (longer than yours, apparently), and remember things like Anita Hill, Neil Kinnock, the MBNA bill, the IWR vote, and Biden's constant foot-in-mouth problem, particularly when it comes to people of other races.

"I have a right to support Biden or whoever, and the credit card crap is getting a little old."

1. No one's denying you your right to support Biden. Knock it off with the strawmen.

2. If the CC industry stuff is old to you, take it up with Biden. He voted for the damn bills.

"The banking industry is very important to our small state and I would say that since we continue to elect him we approve of how he takes care of Delaware."

Thankfully, the interests of Delaware residents are not the interests of the country as a whole, nor should they be. What's good in Wilmington may suck for everyone else, and in this case it does.

"I have supported Joe Biden since his first election to the Senate."

Ah, so you've been intensely loyal to Biden for 30 years. Does your hero worship need any more explaining?

"I am a reasonably intelligent person who doesn't take kindly to be maligned by the likes of you because I do support him. You have not read one thing that I have written against another candidate only for my choice."

I'm not maligning you. I'm pointing out facts about your candidate - or is it hero?

And your second sentence didn't make a damn bit of sense. Is English your first language?

"Because you are a long time poster it is ok for you to call people who you disagree with stupid names?"

I call them as I see them. If you are so thin-skinned that you can't stand honest debate about your candidate, maybe you shouldn't post fanatical diatribes about how wonderful he is.

It's interesting that you used the word "intelligent" to describe Biden.

A man who, not once but twice, was caught plagiarizing.

A man who repeatedly puts his foot in his mouth at every opportunity.

A man who makes borderline racist comments about gas station attendants and Barack Obama.

My definition of "intelligent" includes learning from the mistakes you make so you don't repeat them.

Biden hasn't learned anything. Therefore he can't be that intelligent.

Dukakis, in Iowa, Is Contrite Over Aide's Move Against Biden
By ROBIN TONER, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES
LEAD: Gov. Michael S. Dukakis walked a trail of contrition through Iowa today, apologizing at almost every stop for what his campaign manager did to Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. From a high school here to a center for the elderly in Onawa, a somber Mr. Dukakis voiced his dismay at the actions of his campaign manager, John Sasso, who resigned this week after taking responsibility for circulating a videotape that helped deflate the rival

A Shaken Dukakis Tries to Put His Presidential Campaign Back on Track
By ROBIN TONER, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES
LEAD: Gov. Michael S. Dukakis, grim-faced and still shaken by the loss of his top adviser, today began the job of repairing the damage his Presidential campaign suffered from its role in a rival's downfall.

Two Top Aides to Dukakis Resign As One Admits Role in Biden Tape
By ANDREW ROSENTHAL, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES
LEAD: Two top aides resigned from the Presidential campaign of Gov. Michael S. Dukakis today after the Governor acknowledged that one of them, his campaign manager, had given reporters a videotape that helped destroy the candidacy of a Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. The departure of John Sasso, the campaign manager, and Paul Tully, the Dukakis campaign's political director, dealt a serious blow to the candidacy of the Massachusetts Governor.

Dukakis Aides Quit; The Truth Hurts Two Campaigns
LEAD: POLITICAL professionals were of several minds last week about how much damage was caused the Presidential candidacy of Gov. Michael S. Dukakis by the disclosure that it was two of his top aides who supplied a videotape that contributed to the downfall of a rival.

149. "Biden Admits Plagiarism in Writing Law School Brief", L.A. TIMES, Sept. 18, 1987
"Biden initially received an “F” in an introductory class on legal methodology for writing a paper relying almost exclusively on a single Fordham Law Review article, which he had cited. Biden was allowed to repeat the course and passed with high marks."

So why did he fail? Was that part of a "smear campaign" orchestrated by his law professor?

"He forgot a footnote."

Yes, Biden the plagiarist seems to "forget" to credit people a little too often for my liking. You'd think he would've learned the first time. Apparently not.

"Smear campaign - you are familiar with those, aren't you?"

Hero worship - you are familiar with that, aren't you? It involves making excuses for people, no matter what they do.

150. Yes- he forgot to cite his source.
The thing with Kinnock was different. He
used Kinnock in many stump speeches. And always cited him.

This time he didn't. John Sasso admitted that in his public apology.

After Sasso made the video of the speech in Iowa, and passed it around to the media,
the story about the footnote from law school came out. The smear campaign was that it was a pattern.

------------
And I have to say that this is such a minor thing.
It's not even as bad as a blowjob in the Oval Office.
And nowhere near lying us into a war.

---------------------

And don't give me this hero worship crap. I am the first to criticize Biden.

159. Biden "forgot" to cite his source more than once.
Seems like a strange case of amnesia to me.

"After Sasso made the video of the speech in Iowa, and passed it around to the media,
the story about the footnote from law school came out. The smear campaign was that it was a pattern."

Sasso didn't magically concoct Biden's plagiarized law paper. That was Biden's own fault, and no amount of your spinning will change that fact.

"And I have to say that this is such a minor thing."

If I were caught doing what Biden did, I would be expelled from college - and rightfully so.

Maybe it's "minor" to people who keep making excuses for him, but plagiarism is a very serious issue for those of us in the reality-based community.

"It's not even as bad as a blowjob in the Oval Office."

Clinton did it! Clinton did it! :eyes:

"And nowhere near lying us into a war."

1. Biden believed the lie.

2. Two wrongs don't make a right.

"And don't give me this hero worship crap. I am the first to criticize Biden."

Apparently not - even plagiarism is okay with you, as long as it's Joe Biden doing it.

"So who do you support?
I'll be glad to bring up dirt about them, cuz I got dirt on them all."

If you bother to look for any posts of mine, you'll know almost immediately who I support for 2008. And there's very little "dirt" on him at all.

I disagree with my preferred candidate on many issues, but I think this candidate has by far the best chance of winning.

What are you going to do if he doesn't run?

I really don't know for sure. To be honest, I haven't been paying much attention to you, other than this
discussion we are having.

About Biden - and the plagerism - this is from his book -

"...It's all my fault. When I stopped trying to explain to everybody and thought it through, the blame fell totally on me. Maybe the reporters traveling with me had seen me credit Kinnock over and over, but it was Joe biden who forgot to credit Kinnock at the State Fair debate. I had been immature and skipped class and blown the Legal Methods Paper. I was the one who thought it was good enough to just get by in law school....." He talks about what he was feeling at that time, how it felt to be the butt of jokes and the topic of conversation by all the political pundits, how the media was camped outside his door, and how much it hurt.

That is the measure of a man. Someone who screws up, eats crow, learns from their mistakes, and moves on.

166. Right.
"What are you going to do if he doesn't run?"

I think he will. You don't write a political book, create a movie about global warming, organize the largest series of concerts ever dedicated to the environment, and win the Nobel Peace Prize just so you can say "I've given up on politics completely".

Plus Gore has been signaling as of late that he may re-enter politics.

I am prepared for the possibility that he may not run. In that case, I support Wesley Clark. If he doesn't run, I'd be undecided. If none of the top-tier candidates impress me, I may vote Kucinich in protest.

"That is the measure of a man. Someone who screws up, eats crow, learns from their mistakes, and moves on."

At least Biden admitted it was his fault entirely, although the apologists on this thread seem to be telling me it's all John Sasso's fault.

I don't think Biden should drop out. Every candidate brings something unique to the table, and he is no exception.

I just don't think he'll ever win, due to his foot-in-mouth problem.
