Edwards to join picket line
Edwards to join picket line

CHICAGO -- Former Sen. John Edwards will shore up his union cred tomorrow by rallying with striking hotel workers before joining the other 2008 hopefuls at the Yearly Kos convention nearby.

"The workers have been in a 4-year dispute with the hotel over living wages, health care, retirement security and union recognition," the Edwards campaign wrote in a release touting the expected 11:45 a.m. appearance at the Congress Plaza Hotel. "Over the past few years, Edwards has traveled to Chicago and cities across the country to support hotel workers’ efforts to earn fair wages and benefits and to help organize thousands of hotel workers."

Ironically, some Yearly Kos convention attendees are staying at this hotel, which is sold out despite the strike.

By the way, Windy City residents haven't been treated to much Yearly Kos news on local TV or radio, but everyone here was buzzing yesterday with the sighting of musician Kanye West, in town for some filming.

1. I think it's a great move for Edwards.
Although I'll believe it when I see it since the story is from the Washington Times.

4. Good for Edwards; Obama walked that line a couple weeks ago
It's good to have 2 major candidates who have shown solidarity with union workers

6. John Edwards is & has been a strong supporter of UNITE HERE's Hotel Workers Rising campaign.
This is not new for him.

9. With Bonior in a key role on Edward's campaign
There won't be any mis-steps with labor and many key labor events will be attended by the candidate. I've already got the sense that MI UAW is on-board with Edwards. They have a very strong & long standing relationship with Bonior.
