Clinton gains respect at gathering of bloggers
Top Dem candidates debate to win favor of the 'netroots'

Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Staff Writer

Sunday, August 5, 2007

(08-05) 04:00 PDT Chicago -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
faced a convention Saturday of 1,400 politically influential
online activists who don't particularly like her. Yet she emerged
from the presidential forum here at the Yearly Kos convention
with a little more respect - if not love - from the liberal bloggers.

It helps that the first thing Clinton did was thank them. In a
meeting with about 350 activists before a debate with six other
Democratic challengers, Clinton praised the bloggers for helping
to create a "modern progressive movement" and for standing up
"against a right-wing noise machine."

"I only wish we had this active and fighting a blogosphere 15
years ago," when her husband, Bill, was president, Clinton said.
She got a laugh by joking that a faulty microphone was the work
of "a vast right-wing conspiracy."

Clinton's appearance Saturday and the relatively small amount of
hostile reaction she got underscore two points: Clinton knows
that online activists have won a seat at the liberal power table,
and the "netroots" are willing to at least listen to the candidate
leading most Democratic polls.

List, with sources and links, what makes someone "Democrat" as opposed to "Republican." Next, demonstrate how Clinton alone among the Democratic field meets the "Republican" qualifications.

Why waste our time if the above request cannot be met?

Okay, so these weren't the links you meant or wanted or demanded or whatever. They're links... take 'em or leave 'em.

As you can see, we (sadly) as a Party, only find RW Authoritarians "electable"... Oh! Ditto, the Republicans! Imagine that! And, wait! --- Isn't that Mrs. Clinton I see further to the right than any other Democrat? -- Oops! My bad, she's equal with Bill Richardson... another DLC-er. But, they are both pretty far right! Almost as right as the Republicans... doesn't MAKE them Republicans, I guess, but it sure does make them DINO's -- at least in my book.

17. Notice how they don't even respond to the article?
The article shows how progressive bloggers (a group that HATES her), found her to be... not what they expected, in a very good way. So what's the first response? "I'll never vote for her." It's a very defensive reply, because the real Hillary is much different than that poster, and many anti-Clinton posters here on DU, try to make her out as.

3. I agree with you!
Some days it gets knee-deep in here, doesn't it?

I assume these were the same "bloggers" who booed her when she defended Lobbyists and their $$$. NOw they "respect" her? The media wants her to be the nominee BAD. What a load of happy horsesh*t.

And, those who knowingly vote for her even though she DOES mimic a Republican most days are worse then naive.

She'll never get my vote.

9. DLC = rethuglican lite. I can never forgive her for that Bankruptcy Bill vote.
Nor any Dem who voted for it. Everyone knows the main reason people have to file bankruptcy is due to medical expenses that put them over the top and for a Democrat to make it harder to do so is unthinkable

I like that for the most part they listened respectfully to her remarks.

The whole thing is a snapshot picture of how it's done.

Good on everybody there gathered.

21. Hillary learned about charm from the
"Master," her husband!! People who don't think she is warm and fuzzy are wrong. I think in her un-serious moments she is very likable.

It's hard being female and running for office, woman are held to a much higher standard.

People on DU have said that she was unemotional in the last debate, hell, they never say that about a man! Does anyone think Kucinich came off that way?

22. Hi, laugle.
I bet you're right on HClinton. She is likely a lot more relaxed and fun when she's not "on" and in front of the media-connected lights & microphones.

And as for Dennis Kucinich, I think he's awfully brainy and genuinely dedicated to his principles, and that THAT is what frightens people. Very frankly I don't think that many U.S. citizens are as keen a citizen as Dennis is. They can't see themselves voting for him because they can't perceive themselves as that dedicated, that involved, that intense.

a prayer of winning.

About Hillary, she charmed the pants off of Letterman when she ran for the Senate. He was all set to embarrass her like he does with many guests, O'Reilly comes to mind, but I could tell he really liked her!

Oh well....time will tell if people will warm-up to her. Personally, I don't vote based on looks or charm. I know she is very capable and I also think she can win.

Of course, having the Big Dawg doesn't hurt either.

Please keep an open mind, as I respect your opinion. Thanks
