OK DU'ers I have a serious question about a candidate for President
Could you see yourself voting for Ron Paul for President. hes the only one on either side in my opinion who is 110% right on the war.BUT just remember he is a true Conservative but he is not a Neo-Con and he is pro-life so he may be right on the war but he's no progressive.I watched that ABC News debate and in my opinion he won hands down and in fact got the most applause from the audience.

2. I could not see myself voting for ANY Republican for President.
Ever. Under any circumstances. If Ron Paul had all that much going for him he'd be a Democrat.

4. No Way!
The man is a nut case.....just like Mike Gravel. In one liners they make a lot of sense and I initially thought they both looked good. But after hearing them speak at length....Gravel in particular......it becomes obvious they aren't suited for leadership.

I don't care how right he is about the war, he's dead wrong on almost everything else.

TC

ETA: Have you considered Kucinich?

7. I'm a single issue voter, Labor Unions.
Voting for Ron Paul would be the equivalent of mass suicide for Labor Unions.

So, in a word, no. :hi:

8. No. He's also pro-life, anti-gun control, against universal health care, against
stem-cell research, for a constitutional amendment for school prayer, has a neanderthal view on environmental issues.

24. I also remember some very racist statements he has made
which I don't have a link to. Something like 'we (whites) should be scared of black people. They are not like us'.

9. While Ron Paul has some agreeable stances on stuff like the war...
...It's the fact that he wants to dismantle pretty much every single government agency that really kills it for me.

13. no, most emphatically although I like some of his positions
In actuality, he is a libertarian- and I am 99% sure that I read once that he wanted to absolve Social Security.

I do like some of his stances, but some are just too far out there to be comfortable with.

14. Perhaps. Depends on the DEM nominee. However I think Paul has a better
chance of being on the Unity08 ticket than the gop ticket.

19. He also said...
"The Social Security crisis is a spending crisis. The program could be saved tomorrow if Congress simply would stop spending so much money..."

21. No, but....
...the country would be slightly better off if more Republicans were like him. IMO, he is reminiscent of what a Republican USED to be before the Neo-Cons took over.

So no, I would not vote for him but in general I respect him and his views. We agree on a few things (like the war) and part ways on others (such as his super hatred toward all governmental programs - including public schools). If I were a member of congress I would be able to work with him and respectfully disagree, unlike my dealings with other Republican's which would likely involve into a shouting match if not an out right physical fight.

23. Kucinich is just as right on the war
and has been consistent with his votes against it. Besides this, he has supported legislation that will get us to single payer national health insurance, a sane energy policy, and so much more. No need to vote for Paul.

26. He's an ultra-conservative on just about everything else.
1) He's anti-choice. Rated 0% by NARAL, as low as it gets.
2) He's against stem-cell research funding.
3) He supported the bankruptcy bill
4) He supported a Constitutional Amendment for school prayer
5) He's anti-environment
6) He wants to close the Department of Education and dump the funding responsibilities on the states
7) He supports school vouchers
8) He's against campaign finance reform
9) He voted against the minimum wage increase

That's a start.

28. So, you want to get rid of the federal government?
Ron Paul wants the federal government to serve two purposes: national defense and business protection. No social programs. No minimum wage. No child labor laws. No restrictions on business. No EPA or OSHA.

No, thanks. One issue does not a good candidate make.

29. god no. I LIKE the FDA and public education and I support universal health care.
There is a saying that libertarians are republicans who want to smoke pot. Change that to republicans who want to smoke pot and oppose invading and occupying other countries, and you've got Ron Paul. Significantly better, but still lousy when you consider more than those two issues.

30. For '08, the repeal
of the security state measures of the Bush Admin and the repub congress is most important to me. The longer those laws stay of the books the more likely and greater degree they will be used. If Hillary, who voted for the Patriot Act, Intelligence Authorization Act of 2004 (greatly expands warrantless searches), the MCA, the REAL ID and the Iraq war, gains the nomination and Paul, who voted against those measures, gains the GOP nomination, I would vote for Paul. I think anyone who voted for the Patriot Act (iirc 98 senators) and MCA (iirc 99 senators for HR6166) violated their oath of office and should be turned out of congress and obviously not be elected president. I'm a hardliner for constitutional protections tho.
