democratic parties list of achievements......
The first minimum wage increase in a decade went into effect in July helping the lowest-paid workers. Republicans repeatedly blocked the pay hike when they controlled Congress.

* Republicans lost their majority in last November's elections largely because of the Iraq war, but also due to voter disgust with ethics violations that left some Republican lawmakers and aides in jail or under investigation. Democrats pushed through ethics and lobbying reforms that public advocacy groups applauded while also saying the provisions could have been stronger. Bush is expected to sign the bill into law.

Congress passed, and Bush signed into law on Friday, a series of post-September 11 anti-terrorism steps that had been recommended by an independent commission in 2004. These include broader screening of cargo bound for the United States, allocating more federal grants to cities at high-risk of attack and improving emergency workers' communications systems so they can better coordinate during an attack or natural disaster.

The House and Senate passed different versions of a bill to significantly expand child health insurance coverage for those in low-income families not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. Bush has threatened to veto either version, but Democrats may be able to override him.

The House and Senate passed bills to help students handle soaring college costs and crack down on misconduct in the student loan industry. They likely will send Bush a bill in September that goes directly to the stressed wallets of middle-class parents.

.A popular measure allowing broader stem cell research that supporters hope will help cure Parkinson's disease and other incurable illnesses was passed a second time and Bush vetoed it a second time.

Appealing to growing consumer fears of global warming and U.S. reliance on foreign oil, the Senate passed a bill mandating that cars get 40 percent better fuel efficiency and encouraging a dramatic increase in ethanol as a fuel. Democrats hope to send Bush a bill after the August recess.

A fiscal 2008 budget plan passed with new controls that attempt to impose fiscal responsibility after years of huge budget deficits. Under the plan, any new tax cuts or spending increases would have to be paid for. Republicans complain there is no guarantee Bush's tax cuts will be renewed after 2010.

After six years of mostly getting a free pass from Republicans, the Bush administration is facing oversight by committees with probes ranging from the Justice Department's firing of federal prosecutors to the Pentagon's handling of the death in Afghanistan of ex-football player Pat Tillman.

1. I love it. Now, how about denying Bush what he wants? Why can't we do that?
Or is that out of the question, like impeachment?

2. Most of these "accomplishments" have so far resulted in nothing
While many of the real results of the Democrats -- continued war funding and expansion of illegal wiretaps -- are omitted. Nothing but DLC spin.

4. I don't know if the glass is half empty or half full.
I do know I'm not thirsty anymore.

It's Sunday so I'll say the Dems are doing ok.Ask me again tomorrow though....

PS - I'll comment on the minimum wage thing.Ted Kennedy,a long time and ardent fighter for minimum wage increases still voted no on that bill. That says a lot,to me anyways.Even he seemed to feel it was a type of blood money, and didn't vote for it.

7. They voted for a minimum wage increase
and a few months later shamelessly vote for a COLA increase for themselves.

The CAFE standard increase as well as the stricter ethics standards were pretty pathetic.

Now, I'm not saying I'd rather have the pedophile protectors in power...but this list is WEAK!

8. Oh Snap
So, in summary:

Despite razor thing majorities, hand wringing and gnashing of teeth in their own ranks, and an almost certain veto threat, the Congress has moved forward with progressive policy that is both popular electorally, and good for the country.

Fascist tools, all of them! The American people didn't elect them for this! I hope they're ready for 2008, when the internet shows its disgust by writing them more angry emails.

11. Wow, that's some of the spinniest spin I've seen in a while
Let's try a different view:

Despite an overwhelming electoral victory, unprecedented grass-roots progressivism, and the most unpopular president in over 30 years, the Congress has managed to support and extend the most disastrous foreign policy in US history and assist a criminal regime in its dismantling of the Constitution.

Nice work, Dems!

13. Fantasy Island
"Overwhelming electoral victory"- it took a landslide to put us in a narrow majority, dawg. As the FISA debate has taught us, Nancy Pelosi's majority is built on the whim of limp wristed Blue Dogs. That the Democrats have achieved as much as they have is a major accomplishment.

"unprecedented grass-roots progressivism"- Bull-fucking-shit. 2006 was the result of massive over reaching domestically, disastrous handling of the war, and a healthy assortment of pedophilia, mistress whomping, and bribe taking. Many of the people elected were swept to victory out of utter disgust or by a run only slightly to the left of their Republican opponent. The truly progresive candidates either lost narrowly (Burner, Kissel) or won narrowly via outrage over corruption levels (McNerney). Anyone who wants to drink the Kool-Aid re: 2006 and the Netroots should look at how many of the newly elected Netroots Heros bent over for the new FISA legislation.

"blah blah blah NOBODY CARES ABOUT IRAQ blah blah V FOR VENDETTA blah blah blah IMPEACH HIM NOW, IF YOU USE MAGIC IT CAN BE DONE OVER NIGHT!"- As stated before, when you take reality out of the equation, everything is extraordinarily simple. I'd suggest you call Nancy Pelosi's office, and call her a fascist or whatever. If only she understood the internet, this whole thing would be fixed by now!

9. The dems have done several admirable things and we need to
commend them for them, and we need to harrass them for the debacle of the just passed spying legislation so that the dems do NOT make this revision permanent. I intend to call at least weekly, and maybe bi-weekly, for the next 6 months to be sure that my reps know I demand that they revise this awful law. Please join me.

10. The ethanol thing isn't an acheivement, its a sellout to corn lobbyists...
and a bunch of bullshit as well. Also, 40 percent increase in fuel efficiency means exactly jack shit. Not to mention they are counter intuitive, considering you get LESS mpg through ethanol than gasoline.

12. More criticism..
Congress passes a law to increase the minimum wage, big fucking deal, it doesn't even break the 6 dollar mark, is "phased in" and in addition doesn't even come close the the cost of living in 90% of places to live in in this country. Yet, mere weeks later, Congress votes in, for itself, a fucking COST OF LIVING RAISE. What the fuck man, what the fuck?

In addition, Congress seems to be great at asking the Bush administration if they can please respond to subpoenas, but for all the investigating, they are acting toothless.
