RE: The republican straw poll.
I keep hearing about this impending straw poll the republicans are having and the significance it can have.

Does anyone know if the Democratic candidates will be having one soon?

2. I live in Iowa. I am fairly sure it is a Repuke thing only
Began about 30 years ago and got big in 1988. It is held in Ames Iowa and is one of the big fundraisers for the rich bastards. Like they need money. $35 to vote. I amsure they would like to charge that at the real election.
Some of their "winners" include Marion G. "Pat" Robertson (1988), Bob Dole(1996) and George W. Bush(2000).
If we had one I'd like to hope we'd do better than that.

3. Ames Iowa on Sturday, will be on CSPAN
No similar Democratic event of this level (there are various straw polls but none bringing in 10s of thousands like the Repub one).

6. There should be only 3 weeks of campaigning
It should be NATIONAL.

There should be full public financing of all elections.

We should TAKE BACK our airwaves during that period, in prime time, for full candidate statements and equal time, real debates on the issues...

We should then have a NATIONAL primary -- same date in every state...

Then 2 weeks later, the General Election...

Each of these elections should be held on a weekend -- Saturday AND Sunday and include on-site registration.

This would all be done between the beginning of October and the 1st weekend in November!!!

Of course, the danger of all this is that we may be stuck with something resembling a Democracy...

9. If there were REAL democrats in the House and Senate
that's what they'd be passing.

But we will never have a democracy in this, the belly of the beast, the seat of the Empire...

8. Romney
is spending a gazillion dollars to buy a few straws. None of the other GOP frontrunners are bothering. Romney will probably win. Straws are about all he'll finish with in this race.
