Censure Resolutions Introduced
Democrats have introduced resolutions in the House and Senate that would censure President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales.

Russ Feingold, D-Wis., introduced the censure resolutions in the Senate on Aug. 4; New York Democrat Maurice D. Hinchey introduced them in the House a day later.

One resolution (S Res 302, H Res. 625), would censure Bush and Cheney for “misleading the American people” about the need to invade and occupy Iraq, as well as for poor planning and conduct of the war.

The other measure (S Res 303, H Res. 626) would censure Bush and Gonzales for “undermining the rule of law and the separation of powers” by, among other things, authorizing the National Security Agency to conduct warrantless surveillance of American citizens and making “misleading” statements about the application of the a sweeping 2001 anti-terrorism law (PL 107-56).

3. Oh Yeah? The Battlin' Congressional Democrats Have A Plan!
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 11:02 PM by MannyGoldstein
Tomorrow they'll introduce bills making it legal to mislead the American people, and to undermine the rule of law and the separation of powers.

That's teach the Republicans a lesson they won't soon forget! Bastards won't know what hit 'em.

4. Congress is out of session for all of August, this will be forgotten
...by September and global events will soon over shadow any concerns for censure by the time congress winds up for business again in about six weeks. I'd really like to see this take legs and run, so what will it take for this to a fire under congress and the American people?

6. The multiple sides of this issue become headaches when one
attempts to see some sort of "bigger picture."
Censure seems so utterly toothless and smacking of desperation. Its only real effects seem to be codifying the disgust and anger felt by a majority of Americans and getting some movers and shakers to come down-on the record-as in serious opposition to the evaporation of the things that the US assumes to be known for.

But, to press analogy beyond comfort, desperate times do force desperate men to take desperate measures and throwing a bit of sand into the gears of an insidious monster may not stop that monster but it might slow it down or contribute to its overall demise.
Because censure can change the conversation, I support the effort to bring this to pass and enable it to be pointed to as proof that stiffer measures are justified. However, I don't expect an earth shaking shift.
In a battle, even a tiny delaying action can alter the course. You can't put the peak rock on the top of the pyramid until the rest of the pyramid is built.

Unsung heroes are unsung because their tiny, seemingly insignificant actions actually changed the world but nobody noticed it at the time.

If we had a senate made up of Fine-golds and a house made up of Waxmans, the government would be in safe hands.
