Who could have foreseen this!?

After wiretapping victory, Bush says he wants more authority from Congress

The day after Congress enacted reforms to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, President Bush said he would seek more authority from Congress, especially to protect telecommunications companies who "allegedly assist" the government in spying.

2. No, it's to control the content of propaganda...
If the media reports the Truth, he'll establish himself as the jurist with the sole power to control, fine or remove their licenses. (read Tribunal authority) All under the guise of National Security for the country.

3. Because the Democratic leadership caved in so easily to the first deal,
the bushes pushed for more. As I understand it, the first deal that the bushes wanted (and later backed out of) was simply to allow spying through US servers without warrants on foreigner to foreigner conversations. The Democratic leadership was all ok with that. But when the bushes realized the legislature was so willing to go along and was so easily intimidated, he asked for more unconstitutional spying authority. If they had NOT been so willing initially, then I believe the bushes would not have pushed for more. Like a bully who discovers the victim is willing to kowtow, the bushes will keep pushing until someone stands up to them.

4. Makes you wonder how a guy with no political
capital can get so much through an "opposition" congress. Fear works evidently.
