Ghouliani: Only I can beat Hillary Clinton, predicts Hillary/Obama ticket
Rudy Giuliani: Only I can beat Hillary Clinton
By Toby Harnden, in Stanhope, Iowa
Last Updated: 11:42am BST 07/08/2007

Lambasting Democrats for having "embraced defeat" in Iraq, Rudy Giuliani is declaring himself the only Republican who will keep America on the offensive against Islamism and stop Hillary Clinton capturing the White House in 2008.

The former New York mayor, still lauded in the American heartlands for his performance after the September 11 attacks, told The Daily Telegraph that he believed Mrs Clinton would choose Barack Obama as her running mate.

Rudy Giuliani on a campaign stop in Iowa

"I think it's going to be a Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama ticket," he said during a campaign stop at Sparky's One Stop, a petrol station in the village of Stanhope (population 488), on a sweltering day in rural Iowa.

"They will run together because Barack Obama has had such a good showing and it's going to be very hard for her to deny him a place on the ticket."

But although many Democrats view a "dream ticket" of the aspiring first woman president and the first black vice-president as unbeatable, Mr Giuliani predicted that he could see them off.

22. I think he is. If Clinton and Obama aren't, then good.
They can be surprised all they want.

27. How about you stop trying to present your opinion as fact?
Don't you have anything better to do than antagonize other posters and stir up trouble?

5. LOL. It won't happen.
The man is delusional. First, Giuliani has more scandals under him than ten Bill Clinton's combined. His own children hate his guts for crying out loud. He'd be lucky to carry a single state once the mud stops flowing.

Second, there is no way Hillary is choosing Obama as her running mate unless the polls say that is the only way she can get to the White House. Hillary hates Obama for entering into the race. It's her turn to be President, doncha know? Hillary won't even speak to Obama on the Senate floor, when he tries to wave or say something she just walks by and ignores him.

12. Yeah I saw that too.
It was after the YearlyKos debate I believe and if you looked at the picture you could tell that it was an uncomfortable situation. Hillary's "laugh" looked forced and her eyes were looking away from Obama. He had his hand on her arm and it looked like he was gripping her somewhat firmly as in a "don't run away" type of grip. So she threw up a forced laugh.

Of course, in public they may appear to be fine, but everyone in the Senate is saying otherwise. (It was reported in the NYT.) I mean, have you ever had two friends who used to like each other but then for one reason or another could no longer get along? The Senators were talking about how awkward it was. :P

Use your bean: if they really thought they could beat Hillary, Rudy wouldn't say he was the only one who could beat her.

28. Clinton/Richardson
Hillary would undermine herself by picking Obama... she has made a point that Obama is not ready... your running mate should be ready to take your place should anything happen to you... she would be called on that... also she does not gain votes with Obama on the ticket... she already has the black vote... Richardson would offer more... the VP pick is a strategic decision and the Clinton camp will make a very calculated decision...
